Received my Large yesterday and the fit is much better.  Almost a tailored fit.  XL has already been sold to a fellow forum member.

This is such a nice fabric.

Congrats. Definitely an awesome fabric. Madras or some other lightweight shirt variant should be a staple for every Spring/Summer release  😎

I'm digging on this shirt and, of course, missed it.  I lived in Madras when it was still Madras–-it has changed immeasurably in 40 plus years.  And yes, these are truly patterns from Tamil Nadu, deep south India.  The word "Madras" is a contracted mispronunciation of Madre de Dios and refers to the earliest Portugese trading post.  The city is today called "Chennai", which is the name of the original fishing village that was there long before the westerners turned up.

The quality of this Iron Heart fabric would be, honestly, impossible to match in India, at least the India that I know.  There are beautiful silks, some nice (but not IH quality) cotton but there's just not the market for this level of goodness---at least that's how I see it.

Wear on, mates.  This is a beautiful shit.  I'm sufficiently jealous to wax on with prolix history lessons---from your friendly neighborhood professor.

Super awesome to hear.  It will be even more awesomer if H says yes.

I have a TFH/Googies shirt that combines a Madras weight and pattern with seersucker elements. Only some of the plaid elements carry the seersucker puckering. This not only gives the fabric a cool look and texture, it also makes it a bit better for hot weather, as the fabric tends to stick to your skin less and thus facilitate the free movement of air and dissipation of heat beneath the garment. So you get the benefits of both warm weather fabrics, Madras and seersucker, without looking like typical hickory stripe seersucker.

Fabric winds up looking like this:

                    Think it, be it.

Agree that this pattern is awesome. I love my 220.

I'd definitely love to see IH venture into more lightweight shirting fabrics like the 220/226 (and flannels). It doesn't even have to be madras but the 5.5 oz weight makes it a perfect Spring/Fall shirt.

Can anyone tell me if this shirt shrank much if any after a wash. It looks great and I would love to pick one up for spring. My usual shirt size is XXL and the measurements look perfect as they are now with maybe a little room to spare.

It shouldn’t shrink with a normal wash, but if you hot wash it at 60-90C it probably will.

This was really helpful! Just bought the IH Madras second hand and it came totally puckered. Like crazy, really. I was wondering what the pre owner had done with that shirt…

I had never heard of seersucker before 😅

So I assume this 3D effect is „activated“ by washing? The product pictures look very plane / 2d.

I know this sounds crazy, but knowing „it’s meant to look crumpled“ makes it more comfortable to wear it 😅

                                          Use it or lose it.
