@Darth-fader These Shop Vancouver Y2 chore jackets really do a great job creasing, and shrink to fit nicely. If it’s a little loose to start, I think that’s the way to go!

Love the red chore jacket from the Shop. Has anybody in the US ordered anything from the Shop since the tariffs were imposed? I would hate to have to pay another 10-25% on top of the price for the jacket. I asked TJ but he did not know.

@BorisB TJ definitely declares value truthfully. Which is the right thing to do, and honest, but means that there will likely be customs to pay. I had around a ~$150 hit with my kakishibu chore last fall. That being said… I don’t believe that the 25% tariffs have gone into effect, and the dollar is getting much weaker internationally. The time to buy is probably now.

@Buckeye Thanks so much for your fast reply. $100-150 is the same hit I took with almost all my jackets as well (oddly most for processing). I guess you are right but given the uncertainty, I am a bit unsure if I should get (another) chore jacket. Supposedly, Canadian goods are not part of the pause and products not exempt under the trade deal will have 25% tariffs. That could easily jump up the above hit to $300-400.

Thanks everybody for their input. I might also have to hold off for now. The above point about the origin being Japan is a great point. Reading more about it, the USMCA trade agreement would exclude clothes if the materials would originate mostly from one of the members of the trade partners.
I just hope this craziness stops at some point as I really like TJ’s clothes.

It is based on the country of origin, not sale - see the link at the top of the forum on how it affects IH goods, also made in Japan.

If I was in the US, I'd wonder if it isn't a little cheaper to fly to Vancouver and wear it back...

In the UK we have to pay VAT at 20% on the item and cost of shipping (over a fairly low minimum) and I've got to admit I rarely buy from overseas because of it, especially if I'm not certain on the sizing.

yeah, buying these jackets for shipping to the UK is a bit brutal with regards to the import tax - but I always just factor it in as the overall cost of the jacket.....they are expensive, but you know, you only live once

I think that is unrealistic. Tariffs are charged by the receiving country, are you expecting a retailer to know the tariff regimes of every country that they ship to? I see this as the buyers responsibility to figure out, there is no way I would ask a foreign retailer what tariffs, taxes, handling charges I will have to pay when I import something.. And even if they did know what the US tariffs were, the current administration is changing them on a seemingly ad hoc, random basis. Look at the worldwide stock markets and how they are behaving, this is mainly due to the current uncertainty about what on earth is happening/will happen.

I think as a retailer someone is going to hold it against you if you work out the tariff affected price incorrectly and as you say, it's unrealistic for the retailer to know all tariff regimes (or even the existing duty requirements).

Exactly. And working out what the carrier will charge for handling is a guessing game at best. Again, it's a carrier/country specific random levy.

Just for your edification; this is 100% backwards. The tariffs are levied and collected by the receiving country.

Remember, the point of a tariff is to encourage locals to buy local. They are levied by the receiving country on their own people.
