Just got my pair! Doesn't fit me good enough to straight away think about second pair, but good enough that I'll be keeping them. 🙂 unless I accidentally wash them at 60* + high spin, I'll be ok!

Wore them commuting today. Nearly was late to work trying to button them up first time! Haven't struggled that much since my 25oz samurais!
Also nearly got blisters on back on my knees for the first time!

Tomorrow will soak and wash them and quite likely put away until autumn.

Pardon bad quality pictures! I'll make nicer ones later! Screenshot_20260410_142420_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20260410_142434_Gallery.jpg

@timmyboy I marbled my brycelands sawtooth. Badly. Served me a lesson that denim hates agitation and spin. Since than I've learned that temperature matters only for shrink, but it's agitation and spin that marbles denim... Washed anything else on delicate. No spin or 400 so far didn't marble any of my jeans. Did once 800 and felt like super light, almost unnoticeable marbling on one pair.

So I'm sticking to delicate, 400 spin max. First wash 60*, all others 20-30. Uhr I guess according to first post here, I'll do 30-40* first wash too .

Now just hoping DPD won't decide on evening delivery tomorrow!

@rimaarts I’ve been thinking about your dilemma most of the day and I’m not happy with my response.

What I’m trying to say is that there is quite a bit of variability in how something will shrink and stretch, which is very hard to define precisely.

I’m not trying to steer you away from UHR, but trying to stress that if you have found a cut that works for you, you may have better luck with the variability removed from the equation.

UHR is fairly easy to size if you’re only dealing with one specific dimension that you worry about. In your case, it sounds like you’re worried about the over all fit and the silhouette changing from your desired look.

The 634 will not become a different cut when it shrinks, but your worry is valid. How much the calves shrink is an unknown and the possibility of them stretching back out is even more uncertain.

I wish I could say for certain that post shrinkage that it would fit as you desire, but I can’t. To be honest, I don’t know if anyone can.

Your best bet would be to find the waist that suits you best and hopefully it has a calves measurement that when it shrinks suits you and your goals.

I hope this is a bit better explanation of what I meant earlier.

In my case the problem was I tried 14oz 38 and it was a nice and semi slim cut on me (I'm screwed if it shrinks kind), a year ago I tried different denim 40 size, was swimming in it and I find it hard to believe size difference was just one size.

I have a par of kaihara 16oz which are ok with empty pockets but phone wallet and keys and they become too tight. And too tight+unbreathable+ heavy is not something I want to pay 317£ for..

In the end I ordered 38, and emailed if they would be kind enough to find a pair with 15-15.5 tights, and if they will somehow send me a pair with 14.5 tights, it'll be a straight return... Let's see what comes in the mail... Ideally between those 2 pairs I tried, I might be 39... But let's see what comes in the mail!

Oh and judging by measurement table, 634 should be a pretty nice 38 on me... And 8 shouldn't be drowning in 40... So let's see what comes in the mail...

@goosehd but that's the thing. I know waist will stretch more than enough. I know hips and tighs should somewhat stretch. But below knee won't stretch that much...

And like I said, I bought levis stf where I was happy pre shrink, but post shrink I realised id much rather have bought a size bigger...

On the other hand I bought samurai 25oz off eBay that were marked unsanforised, and they shrunk way way way less than my Lewis...

I don't like slim and tapered fits. And from iron heart only fit that sorta works for me is 634

I'll spend next couple days reading this thread, but a quick question... I had a bad experience with Lewis shrink to fit. Took my usual size, they shrink about 2 sizes, they did stretch back out... Mostly! But size bigger post shrink I'd be happier...

I never could figure out my iron heart jean size, 38 or 40, one denim try on, I'm drowning in 40, next year try another 38 and it's pretty average slim fit (634), so I'm guessing if I do manage to snap a pair, I should go 40? Or even 42?

I was gunning for 25oz but if this is last run, I might snap up those instead...

@rimaarts hey! sorry to hear you're having trouble with the shirt. Can I ask how you're washing it? I've had jeans made out of this denim and they tightened up a bit after their first wash as expected but did not shrink. 30 degrees C and a low spin.

As you say, it shouldn't shrink at all and certainly not continuously as you wash it

Actually I have to apologise. Merchant came back to me and the problem was I was trying the shirt on while still wet because I was too anxious about shrink. And right he was. Today I'm wearing it dry and well maybe it did shrink a bit but not to unwearable level.

So lesson here is don't judge shrinkage on wet denim. 🙂

Weirdly my kaihara denim also had a wash, can't recall second or third, and if after previous wash took about as much time to soften as from raw, now it's pretty soft after couple hours of wear.

@AdamJ since I was already worried about shrinking, gentlest I could. Denim program, no spin, no dryer, 20 or 30*. Pulled out of machine still completely dripping.

@Northman but another question is what will happen after consecutive washes? I also just had the same issue after second wash of kaihara denim. After second wash shrunk more than after first wash. And if above knee I believe it'll stretch, below knee is the problem.

And for this shirt what if it keeps on shrinking on consecutive washes? It wasn't supposed to shrink on this wash too.

Hey guys! Just checking in with my first iron heart purchase! However I think this and 25oz 634 will be my only 2 purchases from iron heart... For trousers I spent a bit trying different cuts And 634 came closest to great. My perfect cut would be straight 888. 634 rise felt a bit low, but 888 perfect top block but almost can't get it over knees and calves.

      For shirts...

Love the shirt! Feels really really slim with too long sleeves. For denim I guess it's fine. Some extra cuff and sleeve fades. But that kind makes me think I better stay away from uhf. Oh by the way love the tight armholes! So much more freedom of movement! Denim also feels nice! Like a soft armour!

      20250820_124729.jpg

P.s. yes I know you "can" shorten sleeves, but when you need 1-2" off, you risk ending up with weird placket. Or placket needs to be moved...

P.p.s. my pockets seem fine. Or at least close enough that I can't see anything wrong.

      Wanted to quote this...

Hey guys! I have a problem. This picture is over a t-shirt.

When buying it I was assured that washing shouldn't create a problem.

Been loving this shirt since buying! After softening it got even nicer! I always wore it over a thin Ralph Lauren cotton jumper, and sleeves were borderline. Over t-shirt slim but ok.

Decided to wash it. No spin, no dryer, cold water, denim program, still properly dripping water after I pulled it out. Today I put it on and I'm not sure it's wearable... Sleeves over a t-shirt seems slimmer than before washing over a jumper. Adding a picture of how my arms look after trying to stretch elbows a bit.

      Any ideas?

      2 more questions...

How about washing? Now I know iron heart says it shirt doesn't shrink but as far as I recall from reading trough here, it does shrink a bit... I'm more worried about width...

And also is those threads purely decorative so I can cut them off or if I eventually catch them on something I risk unravelling some seams?

@neph93 well samurai apparently makes (or made?) 25oz jacket... Soso denim makes even 33oz chore(probably quite so so but still)... So I guess it's not impossible? Really really hard, yes...

P.s. type 3 doesn't exist? Any tops 25 Oz does exist?

@RubyRae well I honestly have enough denim. I also have 25 oz samurai. So the only piece I "want" is iron heart 25oz. And 888 is too slim knees and below, great top block. 634 is... actually weird. I never got a chance to try 25oz 634 but last year I tried lighter denim size 40. Felt like swimming in it. This year tried 38 lighter denim, felt almost like your bog standard high street moderately slim, moderately low rise fit. Looking at pics I took, I can't believe it had 10" leg opening... any other cuts i should look at?

So you think even if sleeves is too long, I should still try on uhf? (Probably next year)

And honestly, sleeves on this one are pretty slim so I don't think creases will help much.. but still. Lovely shirt! And tight armhole makes it so much better!

@CosmoSix5 shortening by 5mm? Sure but does 5mm matter that much? Shortening by 1-2" is not "so" basic... You either end up with really short and unbalanced placket, either placket has to be moved.. at least when it comes to dress shirts, shortening from shoulder is really not recommended...

@TeflonDon said in IH-634-XHS - 25oz Selvedge Denim Straight Cut Jeans - Indigo:

The core of the issue is that shipping out of the EU and charging the VAT is quite a hassle for the seller.

One is the paperwork that has to go with the shipment - but the seller also needs to set up their accounting to handle sales without VAT correctly. And to document that the goods are sent out of the EU.

Unless a shop sells a lot out of the EU it’s simply not worth the trouble. Now some decide not to ship out of the EU (and are occasionally criticized for that), others offer to ship but don’t deduct the VAT.

I assume that Iron Heart Germany is a fairly small operation, with very limited sales outside the EU (where they are in competition with IHUK, Selfedge, IH Japan etc), so a setup allowing for deduction of VAT is probably out of the question.

Somehow I didn't think of each iron heart as a different entity. But that kind of makes sense.
I always thought iron heart is big enough but if they aren't...

A simple "hey! We are small operation so setting up dealing with international vat is not worth the hassle. We did charge vat to you. Your government will charge vat and some more duties and handling fees to you. Here's the link of explaining a bit more how you can reclaim vat from your government. If you don't want the hassle, we are happy to cancel and refund you your order. " would have saved me a lot of annoyance and them answering a bunch of posts.

      Instead all I got was

"hey! You'll probably pay 20-30% extra for duties, taxes and fees!"

"Why do I have to pay 20-30% when shop page says vat is included?? And duties are usually way less?'

"you're responsible for taxes and duties since you're outside EU"

"So did I pay vat to you or no?"

      "Please see your invoice attached.
You do not pay VAT and you do not pay for shipping.
      Invoice says 395 €. Taxes 0. ".

"Ok. I don't particularly need 500€ denim so if it's 395+ 20-30%, cancel the order."

Order is cancelled and refund is on the way but as of now I still have not understood did I pay vat to germany?

From where I stand it was still "395€ taxes 0" invoice with webpage saying 395€ vat included. So 395 for EU and 500€ for the rest of the world...
