@Nostradamion Have you had a chance to try the Yow yet? Love the look of the Pipe (my favourite surfboard I had was a 6'4" retro fish!), but I'm interested in hearing what you think of the Meraki? I've got Carver C7s on both my decks, loosened off for a more surfy feel. I've heard the Yow system is better for this though - wouldn't mind trying one of their bigger Waikiki models
Hey @SamD , sorry for the late response. Received the Yow Pipe with the Meraki setup, and to be honest, I didn't really like it. Don't get me wrong: the carving on it is super tight, and the "surfy" feeling is definitely there, however if you have to push for any distance, it's really squirrely. I also felt that the usable stance area was a little small for me, and I also missed having more of a concave deck vs. the Pipe's relatively flat shape.
I currently have a Carver Super Surfer with C7 trucks, as well as a Carver Hobo with CX trucks, and between the two I prefer the Hobo. As for the Pipe, I ended up gifting it to my son who really likes it. I grew up watching Gerry Lopez surfing, so the Pipe really appealed to me given it's his design, however for whatever reason, the Meraki just didn't work for me.
As a sidenote, I recently met the owner of Pantheon Longboards, and ended up getting a Pantheon Supersonic. That board is incredible; it's like riding on a magic carpet!! I had never really considered longboarding before, but I'm totally hooked now. I did 5km through my neighborhood yesterday, and it felt like I was gliding. The nice thing about the Pantheon is that you can both push as well as pump, much like a surfskate. Also, because it has bigger wheels, rolling over small rocks and / or road debris isn't an issue at all; you pretty much just keep going and the feeling is amazing!!
Anyway, sorry for the long novel!! I'm headed out for a skate as we speak; cheers!!
