@goosehd good question. The current setup is with a clutch motor: fast stitches ~1k-2k/min and with reasonable torque. I plan to remove that and in its place install what's called a 'servo motor' which has variable speed control, more torque and much much slower, down to 1stitch a second or less in some models. I was so surprised to see that all of the machines on the Langlitz floor were clutch (fast) motors, I wonder what set up Iron Heart has for their machines.

@scarfmace ha! I wasn't able to meet her, but her protege gave me a run down of the machine. I'm working my way thru projects with it - but I need to put a different motor to slow it down. The current set up is way above my paygrade.

A grail has landed. A Pfaff 545. This was on the production floor at Langlitz Leathers in Portland for 40 years….the lady who used to sew on it just retired and I learned that back in the day they’d give ‘stars’ to seamstresses who found errors before garments shipped. I feel like I picked up an important part of PDX history.

this looks rad. I gleaned a few ideas from your photo re:set up, shit to bring etc. I dig that you brought camp chairs!! when we're backpacking I seldom bring one and opt for the lighter hammock, but I am often bummed that I decided not to ha!

thanks for the tips on the apps. i'm stoked to get into some new adventures. i once did a ride from tokyo-->osaka on a fixie with no planning, and very little 'stuff' but i had youth on my side, so sleeping on cardboard sans tent/sleeping bag etc. was a no brainer - there's no way i'd survive that today.

What is a mild first timer trip you would recommend in OR (as you know I live in PDX - I'm still rocking that WESCO shit I picked up from you that day). Also is there a place folks post what their carrying on their rigs? I'd be curious to learn what goes in to a trip like this...
