Given the increasing anti-Semitism I'm experiencing surrounding the Gaza tragedy, I've decided to delete my Instagram accounts. It's a shame that we tend to use otherwise good and useful technology for hate instead of education and encouragement. It makes a difference whether a constitution guarantees the right to free speech, even if it hurts others, or whether it considers human dignity inviolable.

I don’t personally see that kind of bigotry on Instagram, but I definitely do on Facebook, and rarely use it as a result. It’s a shame you’ve had to delete your accounts, rather than the platforms dealing with it.

Hi everyone! Last year I had posted my efforts in quitting smoking and wanted report back to you all that I am 1 year cigarette free!! Back in the fall I had one or two many whiskeys and had a weak moment where I took a drag off one of my friends and was shocked at how awful it tasted. Don’t get me wrong, there are times they still look delicious and do get a random urge but all in all, it is no longer a struggle and wanted to share

@flannel-slut fuck yeah!

That’s great @flannel-slut ! I remember how gross it felt to smoke after I quit, and I still persisted in slipping while drunk for a while. Haven’t done that in years now, I’m happy to report. Good on ya.
-
@flannel-slut congrats man! I know it’s not easy and a year is a big milestone
-
Well played @flannel-slut
Think of all the money you saved that can now be spent guilt free on more flannel
-
@sabergirl thank you thank you!! The fact that it tasted so bad (while buzzed mind you) after a few months off was such a relief.
-
@SKT thank you! It was brutal the first 2 weeks but became much less of a thing around after the 2 month mark
-
@Bridger thank you! And no joke, averages out to a UHF every 3 months or so in savings
-
@flannel-slut Congrats on quitting!!!! I quit drinking altogether in March but now I'm addicted to N/A beers so I have yet to save a penny. Hearing it put into IH money savings makes me motivated to slow up on the Heineken 0.0's too (which are delicious).
-
@jordanscollected thank you! And back at you on the no alcohol!! I’m sure that’s carrying over into other healthier choices too

@flannel-slut hell yeah dude. You're through the worst part already. I have also been down the same road. I smoked for 13 years and am 5+ years out now. There will be slip ups, but the biggest thing is keeping it from becoming a habit again. I quit drinking too, 557 days (California) sober as of today. That almost seemed harder than quitting cigarettes in many ways.
Either way, quitting any addictive substance that once gave us pleasure can be incredibly difficult. None of us regret the extra UHF cash though, as stated. That's a powerful perspective right there.
@jordanscollected I was drinking a ton of NA beers for at least the first 6 months after quitting real booze. They saved me, really. Now I save those for holidays and vacations. Eventually I lost the interest/addictive tendencies but they are a wonderful place holder. Especially when around old drinking buddies. That's the hardest!

@Oaktavia I have the "benefit" of not being a drinker anyhow. for the last decade I was a beer or 2 per week and never drunk. But I just found that there was no benefit to even having 1. I end up just falling asleep and feeling run down the next morning. It didn't long for me to lose the urge to have a beer on a Friday or Saturday night.
