I'm glad I wasn't on this flight. https://news.sky.com/story/pilots-skill-captured-as-they-land-a380-plane-sideways-in-storm-dennis-at-heathrow-11935729

Another airline stat, I saw a week earlier in the previous storm, that a non SST, flight, BA from New York JFK to London Heathrow had a 200 mph jet stream traveled at 800 mph and broke a record at 4 hours 58 minutes.

that's how they usually land crosswind, storm or no storm. i'm not trying to take anything aways from those tremendous pilots, but people need to stop glorifying these kinda stuff.

I heard about that! An LA flight to NY took under 3.5 hours. Crazy

Disagree. I think we need to do more to recognize the level of skill required to do that job. People tend to think of pilots as barely more than overrated bus drivers, when it is actually a very demanding profession. Most of the time flights are routine, but every flight, particularly takeoff and landing, is an opportunity for something catastrophic to happen. That the flights are instead generally routine is a fact that we shouldn't take for granted.

Agree with you @Chris . That day there were a couple hundred flights cancelled at UK airports. And a bunch of train lines were down.
