Would anyone be willing to give a little breakdown of a 21oz denim vs this 25oz? I have the 21oz 888 OD and really thinking about picking up a pair of these 25oz. Wondering more about how they denim feels once it’s broken in and how it fades vs the 21 oz OD. Much appreciated!!

XHS is amazing, and eventually becomes the softest denim you’ve ever worn. It takes a lot of work to get to that point. 21oz and especially the OD is very soft right away. The fades on OD  are more subdued than both.

I would advise reading back in some of the older forum threads about XHS—all the reviews and descriptions you could ever want are there.

Thanks @sabergirl I’ve read every thread on the 888 XHS and a lot of the others. Haha. Sometimes things all start to blur together. I kinda figured I had it easy with the OD haha. The XHS sounds like it will be far and away the most breaking in I’ll ever have to do to get to the sweet spot. By the sounds of it it will be so very worth it!

I guess what I’m kind of curious about is once both the 888 and the XHS are full broke, are they unique enough to one another to justify having both?

OD 21oz is a completely different animal. Looks and feels unlike XHS.

Oooorrrrr….do I hold out for the UHR? Haha. I don’t know what to do.

If you can only do one, and you don't need it right away, I would definitely hold out for UHR.

I live in my 888-XHS, but the UHR are legendary!

UHR is also a completely different animal. For fade potential, it’s hard to beat. If softness is what you’re after, steer clear of UHR, it’s mad crispy for life. They’re all very different from one another. You will not feel like you’ve got duplicate jeans.

That should be someone's signature 😃

UHR can be difficult to size, too.

Ive been reading the UHR thread. My brain loves the rarity of the UHR but my gut tells me the heft and softness of the XHS would be better to my liking.

As far as breathability, which is better?

Ok. Sounds like XHS is taking the nod of the cap on this one. The collector in me is getting very uncomfortable haha.

The XHS isn’t going anywhere.  I’d get the UHR while you can.  It’s a special denim.

Well, lord knows my better half would love it if I didn’t by any more denim for a bit. Haha

@Matt Im always drawn to the rare and collectible. Your logic lines up with mine. Does the UHR feel as heavy as the XHS?

I’d say it feels as “weighty” and substantial but different.  Neither is better than the other, I’ve had both in my line up at the same time and never felt like I had to choose one over the other.  I purged recently so I could size down on everything and I fully intend on getting both back in the closet.  The UHR is my priority for my aforementioned reason.

The 25 is of course mathematically heavier but the 23 is more dense lending to less breathability.  2 ounces on the body is more or less indistinguishable.  The feel for each though is all its own.

I think I’m going to pull the trigger on the 888 XHS. I think the softness in the end is winning me over. Hopefully I don’t get too much FOMO from the UHR.

I’m thinking tag size 32 will get me in the sweet spot but hoping for a double check on my math.
My goal is a 33” waist. Tag 32 comes in 32.5. Should lose about 1/2 inch from soak/ wash. After wearing a bit should stretch out to about a 33”

Inseam I want to end at 32.5-33” so if I hem to 33.5 this should shrink right around to my goal length.

I’ve read this thread several times now haha. Just thought I’d run my thinking past the gurus around these parts.

Your math for the waist should be fine. For hemming I can’t give you any advice. I only hem after washing.

Yeah, I may follow your lead on the hemming after washing @Dmart  don’t want to make an expensive mistake.

I was kind of over estimating the length in my prior post with the possibility of hemming shorter a second time if necessary. Probably better to wash first then hem though.
