      @Beatle:

      I can only answer question No. 2 - and that is knowing the Alpha N3B..it´s definetely warmer than this one..but who needs 2 jackets for the exact same weather ? My feeling is that with a hoodie the IHM-01 will cover temps down to -5

      I can fancy myself wearing my overdyed western shirt with pockets with my Type 3 and the IHM-01 in a XL size and never feeling the cold even on my motorcycle… Might have trouble flexing my arms, though...

            This is a case of need Beats, it's bloody freezing here at the moment so I'm hoping that double Melton power will keep me toasty until this jacket arrives.

              so nobody in NY is getting one?  i would like to see it in person so i can know if i have yet another reason to kick myself.  if i didn't have the MF deck than i might of went for it, but you know.

              i've seen a few companies doing them & i'm surprised that i like some of them (specifically talking about a smallish company named saturdays that does one as well as a few other items that look pretty good http://www.saturdaysnyc.com/item/oliver-deck-jacket)

                  Is the shell on this jacket cotton? It felt like it was when I tried it on.  If so, is it somehow waterproofed?  Without wax or a massive amount of silicon spray I would expect cotton to start soaking up water fairly quickly.

                    the original deck jacket is made from 100% cotton "jungle cloth" and is weatherproof
                    probably such tight knit that it repels water

                      Whipcord is either wool or cotton. In this case I'd be hoping for wool; it'll be more water- and wind-resistant, and will stay warmer when wet.

                        I spoke to Haraki.

                        His overriding concern when designing this was that it should be wind proof.  To that end he has incorporated a wind proof mid layer.

                        The whipcord outer has not been treated, but the whipcord he has used is super tightly woven, so will protect from the rain to some extent, but we would not claim it to be waterproof.

                            Hmmm…. I might have some thinking to do then. I absolutely love this jacket, but to go into a winter as harsh as they are predicting with no waterproof coat might be madness. I'll have a think, but might have to go for the IHJ-06 for practical reasons.

                                Dude, really? This is blighty. Do you work outside a lot? Seems a shame to pass cos of borderline precip protection.

                                  Hectic I've passed man, I've gone with the IHJ-06 for pure waterproofing reasons. I walk literally everywhere, so it's important for me to be good to go whatever the weather.
