I’ve never washed the wearability out of a pair of jeans.  They make them pretty sturdy around here.

        @Matt:

I never get noticeable shrinkage from a cold wash.  At most they go back to pre stretch measurements then stretch back out with wear.  I get pretty minimal shrinkage with hot washes.  I just washed my new UHRs and they didn’t shrink much at all. If you’re looking for maximum shrinkage throw them in the dryer after a hot wash.  I promise they won’t explode.

As a rule though I wear until smelly, wash cold inside out, air dry outside then turn outside in.

I’m thinking more the inseams. I don’t really want to lose more than an inch, but worrid I’ll get a lot more

I don’t see that happening.  I never lose that much in the length.  For future reference though you can always ask the crew to pull the longest one in stock.  If you’re having them hemmed do it after the first wash.

I won't disagree with all the good advice from more experienced practitioners. If length is critical for you, it's also possible to apply gentle traction while the jeans are still damp to bring the inseam back to pre-wash measurements if you need to.

You won’t lose an inch on XHS with a normal wash. Also, Andrew is right that a good long tug, mitigates the loss of length (yes, I am ROFL over that sentence) [emoji16]

@goosehd , of that, I have no doubt.

Me, I can offer only one piece of advice. Try not leave things open to such wide interpretation. Twats like me are always on the lookout for them… 😃

It's fun giving @Matt grief, but I have to say @ARNC is doing a great job of giving us material to work with.  With the traits that he looks for in clocks, and the stretching and tugging of jeans… 😃  You're fitting in quite well.  Keep up the good work  🙂

Not much of a forum person but I did want to share about how excited I am about these jeans, after reading so many threads about them I was prepared for sheets of stiff iron cardboard like the XHS-BB (my first pair that I bought) but after hot soaking them and wearing them for a few hours they are so so so soft, like, one of the softest pairs of jeans I’ve ever had! It’s amazing. Everyone should own these.

I have no idea how to X-post so I just copied and pasted this from the XHSBB thread? Hope that’s ok, but since the post is about both pairs I thought I’d put it here too

I know this is all old news to everyone here but I’m new to IH and still just geeking out over everything about these so I did some comparison shots to show how different the XHSBB and the regular indigo XHS are, they’re so different I actually emailed IH wondering if I had a mislabeled pair haha. It’s so cool that the fibers being dyed different colors can create such a different feel and texture even though they’re the same weight

XHSBB have about 2 months of wear and still keep their shape when I take them off, they’re real smooth and stiff and crunchy, the XHS have 3 days of wear and they’re super soft and floppy with a rough hand, they don’t really keep their shape at all when I take them off. The BB have a much higher rise and slightly slimmer leg. It’s also hard to tell here but the back pockets on the indigo pair are way smaller, but the front pockets have wayyy more room.

This is the craziest thing though. The indigo pair is like half as thick as the BB when folded up.

                                    Excellent post!

First of all. That is the simplest way to x-post and your reasoning for doing so is sound.

Also, the forum has been around for 13 years now and some of us have been here for most or all of them. But membership and participation is constantly being refreshed. So old timers are likely here because they still enjoy interacting with folks and reading and discussing IH. But everything is new to newbies.

In other words, you’re doing great.

So I’m in the mood for trying 25oz. Currently have 555s and sbg in 31 and 30 respectively both of which fit pretty well and I love. The S are a little looser overall but nothing especially noticeable or crazy. My question is, do I size up for XHS and opt for the 32 (which, according to size charts, my 555S seem to match pretty closely in the waist etc as they are now) to account for shrinkage and to cope with the extra heft of the fabric, or is it better to stick to 30/31 as my sbg and s are respectively. Below are some recent pics of my 555S for reference. Also, the uhf is my first and it’s a thing of beauty.

I like to size up on XHS because of the heft it's definitely better with some extra room.

I have a slightly different take on your question and admittedly do not own the 555 cut.  However, I do own jeans in the 888 cut in 21oz indigo, 21oz SBG and 25oz XHSib.  When sizing for the 25oz pair, I measured the 21oz indigo pair I own and like the fit of a lot (after wearing them several times post a wash).  With those measurements, I tried to find the closest match in the 25oz size chart.  You can also email the crew at IHUK and they will measure the inventory for an even better match.  The 25oz is going to shrink after a wash, but true to the details advertised, the areas put under stress (waist, top block, and thigh) will stretch back to, or slightly more than, the measurements when new.  Obviously, the inseam length measurement will not come back to original.  Hope this helps.
