@jglatz I soaked mine and wore them a couple days and then cold washed them and got more shrinkage. they were much better after the wash.

@jglatz just soaking will not get you maximum shrinkage. This happens through agitation. @Giles has explained this a little here. Please also keep in mind that exerting pressure will lead the denim to stretch again

@Tago-Mago thanks for all the helpful info. And patience as I (we) try to sort this out. I know it’s been covered a lot here and in other threads.

Sorry everyone if this has been well covered but what exactly is the risk or downside of not getting full shrinkage for this denim? Do they wear oddly? Is it bad for the denim long term? Do fades risk shifting around? Can it come back to haunt me later?

Not saying I’ll do this (I really probably need a 36) but what if all I ever did with these was cold/warm rinse with light agitation and a little soap from time to time for the lifetime of the pair? (Unless of course they get super gross or spilled on or something similar).

@dwils these look great on you man. I’d say to size up if you definitely need the space in the waist, if not - stick to the 35. It fits you awesome in all places, and though the waist will come in after the soak/wash, you will get that space back without a doubt. Now if they are too tight in other places such as the thigh, sizing up is definitely necessary but from what it looks like, this appears to be your true size.

Interesting note on washing these inside out. I did yard work in mine and got mud stains and ingrained dirt on the knees. I hot washed with a soak inside out (as always) but virtually none of the dirt/mud got cleaned out. I guess the fabric is so tuff that even detergenty water on a regular cycle can't penetrate through that well. Just did a right side out soak in the tub with woolite with some light agitation and toothbrushing of the knees, and they are looking much better now. We will see if they actually got clean after they dry.

@68degreesorless I have found mud doesn't come out easy in a washer. When my clothes get muddy (not just IH), I usually let it sit for a day or so to dry out, then take a brush and brush off as much as I can. Then after a wash, "good as new".

                        @68degreesorless I agree with @wjw

I do a good amount of offroading / mudding in my denim and I get plenty of mud stains on them. The best advice is to let the mud dry then brush it off after the fact.

But one thing I would add is to not soak inside out. Even when I don’t have mud stains, I never soak inside out. To me it just does not make sense doing so. I feel like all the dirty stuff gets stuck in between, especially in heavier denim that doesn’t really open up much when submerged.

This is just a personal preference thing, but imo the only downside of soaking right side out is the pain in the butt it is to pull them inside out after the soak for the washing machine.

I always notice a more efficient wash when I soak right side out though.

@worn2fade Yeah man lesson learned for sure on the mud. I was honestly pretty amazed how little the wash did to them when turned inside out. Those muddy knees looked almost exactly the same as when they went in dirty. Crazy how much the 25 oz can shield itself from proper cleaning if you don't expose it to the wash properly.

@worn2fade Same here. The inside out thing is only to keep abrasions from forming marbling and random lines, but when you are just soaking them, those abrasions aren't going to happen anyways, AND the inside out keeps the outside from getting clean. The only time mine ever get turned inside out are when they go in the washing machine, but that almost never happens anyways because I feel like they get much cleaner with a hand wash in the tub with soap and agitation.

I don’t turn inside out specifically for soaking my friend. In the washer machine they definitely get turned inside out!

Nice dude. For me, I don’t have great success hand washing unfortunately. I tried that in the beginning and it’s just not the best in my case. I’ve seen great results with soaking regularly, then washing inside out in the machine.

Plus with a machine wash they come out smelling way better than with hand washing haha

It’s always best to let the mud dry first, brush off what you can, then throw it in some water.

11 wears today, so still a XHSib noob. Have to say they are starting to soften up a bit. And to my surprise a small amount of fading here and there already.

For reference I am 188cm and about 90kg. Tag 35 and just started using a belt because of stretch or weight loss. Or both.

Below 0 degrees C in the morning here in Sweden so still XHS-weather 😎

                                            Jacket is IHJ-86-BLK in XXL.

                                            Cheers
