@Appfaff It’s ridiculous that companies take one of two forms:
1. Extremely small ones that take care of their people (even at the expense of the owners)
2. Medium to large ones that will go as far as the law allows to screw their own peopleNot entirely sure how we got here. Perhaps it’s that the good-conscience having small business owners just aren’t ruthless enough to grow? I know that you know all about being #1. And what’s funny is that often clients and employees act like #1 companies are #2 companies anyway.
@tvenuto we got here because companies make it their business to understand and bend/break the law. In my work I make it my business to know and understand all of the legislation I work with better than those that basically pretend to know it. Unionise companies and organisations. Form workforce support networks…I started a mental health support network at my work. 2 years on we have been involved in the review and rewriting of policies that have hugely benefited all employees.
Employees have a duty of care to their employees (in the UK and EU at least, can't comment on the USA). Organisations can't function without custom or staff, and they should look after both.
@Appfaff I hope your wife gets her due. I hope it's a case of managers and accounts not knowing their arse from their elbow rather than being deliberate.

@neph93 shithouse, in the south it's derived from 'brick shit house's…for our foreign friends, a brick shit house is what most house had throughout the early part of the 20th century when plumbing did not permit toilets indoors, meaning that a small brick building was built in the yard....a brick toilet, or 'shit house' ...in my job it was only a couple of years ago that I worked with older people that still had outdoor toilets.

Cheers everyone for the advice.
Everyone acted like it was a huge mistake, but then couldn’t give a hard date of reconciliation. Until it is resolved, Im viewing it as an insult to our family.
Guilty until proven innocent in my mind when it comes to big business.

@Appfaff I have a photo of your wife's boss's domicile.
I know it's not a solution but a kick in the dick seems appropriate. Actually that is a solution. The best to your wife, those fuckers don't deserve her. -
Truth be told, they are all afraid of her leaving, so they are usually too quick to offer solutions, oftentimes being able to formulate said resolution. She believes that is what happened in this case. Her live for her employees outweighs all… probably why she produces higher numbers than managers twice her age.
Plus, since I am a bit of a mystery to them, they are pretty quick to think I’d probably be able to make bodies disappear if I needed to.

I'll have to go ahead and disagree that the scale of a company defines its ethics.
If anything, publicly traded status is the biggest factor, but my current company is publicly traded $5bn company that goes above and beyond for its employees, where my previous company does the same at about half the scale, also publicly traded. As usual, broad generalizations don't apply. Companies are comprised of individuals and thus reflect the ethics of those individuals.

My wife has just had to put up with a similar situation, Not pay related, but hours. Her boss kept asking her to go from part time hours to full time; even though she took the job on a part time basis. (female boss with kids herself!)
Amounted to bullying and intimidation. I helped her find another job, and she starts in September.
I'd encourage her to leave @Appfaff sounds like the employer is a shower of shit!
::)
Your wife sounds like she works too hard, and cares too much to put up with that bollocks!
Hope it works out.

Until it got as hot as it is now with 30°+ for 2 Weeks now I actually tought that we as a Society had some sort of agreement on how to get along with each other, but I think I was wrong, the Amount of hairy Armpits, ugly Feet and discusting smelling Humans that walk German Citys a truly remarkable, as if I needed another Reason to await Winter.
-
That's very aptly put, @Steffen. Disagree on the looking forward to winter (I just really hate to be cold), but absolutely agree on the sentiment of heatwave aesthetics. Only hope that in spite of tending to sweat profusely, I'm no culprit of the described cause of disgust myself…

Of course when I asked a week ago, they told me no sales in the immediate future.
If they had told you they were going to have a sale, then they don't deserve to be running a retail operation.
-
Meh, I disagree but that is more for a different topic. Bottom line is, great deal on a great pack.

As a retailer, if you tell people you are having sale at some point in the future, you may as well discount the item straight away or do a general price reduction, if you can do that, then you're probably gouging your customers at full retail.
At the end of the day, we are in business to make money, if we (IH) could make an acceptable margin by reducing our prices by 10%, we would.
-
^ That, with the only Exception that if my Local Dealer when I ask him if he has Sale Next Week and he says No I´ll probably be pissed. Online no one can expect to get those Infos not from IH and especially not from Eastdane, the People who work there are Lemmings, if one of them would give such Infos away, incase he even has them, he would most certanly get fired.

sorry last reply i promise. mods if unacceptable, please move it to another thread.
RE: sale.
it's the same if any retailer keeps on going on sale. then the customers will always look forward towards the sale and not buy anything full price. in the long term, this impacts a retailer greatly as nobody will ever look to come in and buy anything unless there is a sale. unfortunately, for a small business, unlike the heavyweights like H&M or Uniqlo, we do not have an extensive product line where certain items can cover the shortfall of the items that are going into sale.
at that point, the majority of your customers will most likely only come in only when there's a sale.

Like J.Crew and their perpetual sales. They offer some nice 3rd party stuff and i'm not opposed to their sales by any means, but every week they're discounting something. They've closed 50 stores last year and will close another 20 this year. Not surprised at all. When I see their discounts I look at their stuff and tell myself i'd never pay full price for anything they offer. When they mark stuff down every week they're saying, "we can't sell this stuff at full price so we're letting it go @ 60% off. They're still probably making a small profit when you consider where their stuff is made but the perception is that their product isn't worth paying full price for.
-
And J Crew have outlets.
I'm glad I'm not in retail or merchandising. It's really hard.
