@neph93  shithouse, in the south it's derived from 'brick shit house's…for our foreign friends, a brick shit house is what most house had throughout the early part of the 20th century when plumbing did not permit toilets indoors, meaning that a small brick building was built in the yard....a brick toilet, or 'shit house' ...in my job it was only a couple of years ago that I worked with older people that still had outdoor toilets.

On several occasions when I was very young my Mom would see a very big woman and remark “She’s built like a brick shithouse” Thanks for clarifying that for me after all these years,

          Cheers everyone for the advice.

Everyone acted like it was a huge mistake, but then couldn’t give a hard date of reconciliation. Until it is resolved, Im viewing it as an insult to our family.

I know it's not a solution but a kick in the dick seems appropriate. Actually that is a solution. The best to your wife, those fuckers don't deserve her.

Truth be told, they are all afraid of her leaving, so they are usually too quick to offer solutions, oftentimes being able to formulate said resolution. She believes that is what happened in this case. Her live for her employees outweighs all… probably why she produces higher numbers than managers twice her age.

Plus, since I am a bit of a mystery to them, they are pretty quick to think I’d probably be able to make bodies disappear if I needed to.

I'll have to go ahead and disagree that the scale of a company defines its ethics.

If anything, publicly traded status is the biggest factor, but my current company is publicly traded $5bn company that goes above and beyond for its employees, where my previous company does the same at about half the scale, also publicly traded. As usual, broad generalizations don't apply. Companies are comprised of individuals and thus reflect the ethics of those individuals.

                Think it, be it.

My wife has just had to put up with a similar situation, Not pay related, but hours. Her boss kept asking her to go from part time hours to full time; even though she took the job on a part time basis. (female boss with kids herself!)

Amounted to bullying and intimidation. I helped her find another job, and she starts in September.

I'd encourage her to leave @Appfaff  sounds like the employer is a shower of shit!

                  ::)

Your wife sounds like she works too hard, and cares too much to put up with that bollocks!

                  Hope it works out.

If they had told you they were going to have a sale, then they don't deserve to be running a retail operation.

As a retailer, if you tell people you are having sale at some point in the future, you may as well discount the item straight away or do a general price reduction, if you can do that, then you're probably gouging your customers at full retail.

At the end of the day, we are in business to make money, if we (IH) could make an acceptable margin by reducing our prices by 10%, we would.

                                  RE: sale.

it's the same if any retailer keeps on going on sale. then the customers will always look forward towards the sale and not buy anything full price. in the long term, this impacts a retailer greatly as nobody will ever look to come in and buy anything unless there is a sale. unfortunately, for a small business, unlike the heavyweights like H&M or Uniqlo, we do not have an extensive product line where certain items can cover the shortfall of the items that are going into sale.

at that point, the majority of your customers will most likely only come in only when there's a sale.

Like J.Crew and their perpetual sales. They offer some nice 3rd party stuff and i'm not opposed to their sales by any means, but every week they're discounting something. They've closed 50 stores last year and will close another 20 this year. Not surprised at all. When I see their discounts I look at their stuff and tell myself i'd never pay full price for anything they offer. When they mark stuff down every week they're saying, "we can't sell this stuff at full price so we're letting it go @ 60% off. They're still probably making a small profit when you consider where their stuff is made but the perception is that their product isn't worth paying full price for.

This has happened to me before and it did bother me, at the time. If the SA’s are aware there will be a promotion the following week and someone asks you about potential upcoming sales, I don’t see an issue in divulging that information. Otherwise, rather than be intentionally deceived, i’d prefer the honest answer outlined by Giles above.

i suppose just from personal experience with that fast fashion company where i used to work..

their role with merchandising is that, they have their priority products which are produced at a greater margin that'll never go into sale, or at the very least the remnants of that season. their usually low in quantity but has a higher price point. and there's stuff where they plan for and receive that are absolutely huge in quantity. when you've received something like that, you immediately know that it'll go into sale without a doubt.

at the same time, with planning. their reorder point/ replenishment seems off to me and unpredictable. i'm not sure if that's because the australian market is on opposite ends to the rest of the world. but i can only speak for the australian seasons and not european/us seasons
