Yeah you can switch it back to the old setting and get the little tabs icon back to where it was. Just do a search for something like “how do I get my tabs back to the way they used to be in iOS26” and it should show up. It drove me f’n insane too.
-
go to Settings > Apps > Safari, scroll to the Tabs section, and select either Bottom or Top instead of "Compact"
@ARNC knows!

@ARNC Udaman thanks for the tip. So rare we have rants that are actually solvable in this thread.
-
@68degreesorless I think I went through the same process when I got hit by the “helpful” update. I’m sure we’ll both be able to find something else to rant about soon!
-
OK, I’m thinking it’s time to start changing what I do every day. This morning I went to get coffee a little later than normal, and the first thing they said was, “You’re late. Where’d you go? Waffle House for breakfast?” Yep, that’s where I was.
Then I just walked into Whole Foods about an hour and a half later than I normally do, and the security officer at the front door told me I was late.

It would not be hard to kidnap me. The plan would take all of five minutes to put together.

@northsouthdenimguy Now I'm hooked. What's the rest of your day look like with these stops built in? This was a cliffhanger!

-
Honestly, my days are pretty fun. I’m a general contractor and residential custom home builder, so every day is different. I’m constantly meeting with subcontractors, suppliers, clients, designers, architects, and owners. I’m rarely just sitting in my office for long periods. Sometimes I’ll spend three or four hours working on a budget, but I get bored so I go handle something in the field, and then come back to it.
School was never really for me. I can’t sit still. This career and business path fits me perfectly.
And I usually throw in a stop at Guilty Party once a month, sometimes more. I’ll spend a couple hours there getting the scoop and catching up. And I’ve been known to buy a thing or two when I stop in.
-
@northsouthdenimguy awesome. I love hearing how other people fill their days. Mine are remarkably uneventful as a college professor, punctuated by rare and powerful moments that knock my socks off, in good and bad ways. The things young people face... Sure they're not getting drafted for war, and yeah they create some of their own problems, but regardless it's a generation with a lot of pain and fear in my experience.

@anodyne I am of the opinion that AI and UBI need to be a package deal. This kind of thing is only going to get worse as AI gets better. UBI or rejection of AI will be the only viable options.
Hope this isn't the company you work for and all's well with you.

100% on UBI. I work in tech, but not for Block. So, for today, I'm fine. Thanks.

@StarsSuck I was drafted and went for my pre induction physical at the famed,of Alice's Restaurant, Whitehall Street pre induction Center. That was pretty scary. Ended up failing the physical.
-
@Jett129 Hope they didn't send you to the "Group W" bench

-
@sabergirl I’m on board with this.
-
@popvulture really glad I read that yesterday. My phone updated last night and if I’d not been lucky enough to read your comment yesterday I’d have had a nightmare trying to figure that out
thank you! -
@sabergirl Energy use or the cost. Every company is losing money and economies of scale don't work for AI.
-
@DeeDee85 you bet! Software updates almost always suck, usually some engineer trying to make things "better" just because it makes sense to them, regardless of how it might be for other people. It's nice when they do offer you some way to go back to the way it was before they fucked it up.
-
@Xavras all of the above! This garbage tech is just a circle-jerk if five corporations in a trench coat! I hope that all go catastrophically broke before they cause the speed the heat death of all life as we know it.
We have only ourselves to blame if it also tanks the world economy.
