Found a very old, but never worn pair of 877. Already the first steps suggest that the break in process should be much more pleasant than in the 1907...

@RobeOfTheMagi For me, yes, because I only put my boots on and off once a day. Therefore, I don't need to upgrade to speed hooks. Like the added stability on unpaved trails provided by the higher shaft.

@cosmic55 lucky! Damn near impossible to find a new pair! I sure as hell would’ve preferred that. Lemme know if you find a 9.5, I’d do another lol. They are my fave red wing I think. I love the Hawthorne Muleskinner leather

@WhiskeySandwich Certainly was lucky! if I see any I'll let you know. I think Hawthorne has become a new favourite after being unsure if I'd like it.

I just got this rather old pair of 875s and had them resoled:

It feels like the weight of the boots is 50% down with the new Vibram soles.

I'm not sure how long the Vibram Morflex outsoles will last. The Mocs feel like sneakers with them.

Has anyone got experience with this outsole?

@RobeOfTheMagi oh is that what that is? like a softer christy? i'm interested! of course i'm sure if they're more comfy, they're softer, and softer wont last as long. but i'd def be down for that trade-off.

                              Hey mate!

I honestly don't know too much about this particular style of Vibram outsoles. It's the first resole for the mocs. As far as I understand the "morflex" ist the cushiest, most sneaker-like outsole.

When the local cobbler told me he was going to put Vibrams on the shoes I supposed they'd be quite like the originals. However, these really aren't. I don't mean that in a bad way; the soles are just very different, at least in weight.

The pair of boots in size 9.5 (US) is only 1100g (2,4lbs). They really wear like sneakers.

                              Edit:

It's hard for me to evaluate how much softer they are compared to new original Red Wing soles. Mine felt like wooden soles after all the years. In that regard the Vibrams are waaaaaaay softer.

@RobeOfTheMagi I’m super interested in a softer, lighter sole for these. I like that they look the same and have those features, even if they don’t last as long. IMO , traction tred and og Christy last plenty long if you don’t drag feet, so if they last, say, 70% of that time, it’d be worth the cush and lightness.
