@WhiskeySandwich Thanks for the quick reply. I’m thinking of giving them to my son as his feet are a bit smaller than mine. If he doesn’t want them then I’ll probably give them the WhiskeySandwich hot water treatment. Yeah, I can get my feet into them no problem, they are just tight - mainly the right as that foot is a little bigger than my left. The left boot feels ok so the right doesn’t have to stretch all that much.

@NickD The only local cobbler is mid at best. I don’t really trust him after he messed up a resole he did for me and put on a different colour sole than I asked for. It’s a one man shop and he’s always swamped with repairs. The next cobbler is over 60kms away and don’t know what he’s like quality wise.

@ZackB I've had Ridgeway soles before and they are one of my favourites, a good compromise between grip and hard wearing. I like the profile better than Dainite, and definitely better than the cork soles that were on there.

@Denman-John I'm lucky that my local cobbler is Shoehealer who have a great reputation globally, not just here in the UK. Really good cobblers are hard to find.

@cosmic55 lucky! Damn near impossible to find a new pair! I sure as hell would’ve preferred that. Lemme know if you find a 9.5, I’d do another lol. They are my fave red wing I think. I love the Hawthorne Muleskinner leather

It feels like the weight of the boots is 50% down with the new Vibram soles.

I'm not sure how long the Vibram Morflex outsoles will last. The Mocs feel like sneakers with them.

Has anyone got experience with this outsole?

                                            Hey mate!

I honestly don't know too much about this particular style of Vibram outsoles. It's the first resole for the mocs. As far as I understand the "morflex" ist the cushiest, most sneaker-like outsole.

When the local cobbler told me he was going to put Vibrams on the shoes I supposed they'd be quite like the originals. However, these really aren't. I don't mean that in a bad way; the soles are just very different, at least in weight.

The pair of boots in size 9.5 (US) is only 1100g (2,4lbs). They really wear like sneakers.

                                            Edit:

It's hard for me to evaluate how much softer they are compared to new original Red Wing soles. Mine felt like wooden soles after all the years. In that regard the Vibrams are waaaaaaay softer.
