Question about buy/sell forum
-
@sabergirl Did you not complain last week about sellers using your photos and information to resell the item you just sold to them? It’s one of the reasons I delete the ads…
Also, it keeps the buy/sell much cleaner and doesn’t have: if it doesn’t go through I’ll take it, is this sold, is this still available, cluttering up ads.
This is a great discussion and am following to see how it progresses.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember back in the days if something was sold the respective thread was moved to a kind of archive section where you could still look for it but not comment or edit anymore.
-
@don_pipone The archives were deleted as they served no real purpose other than to take up space…
It’s also been gone for a few years now and the first time it’s been mentioned since its removal.
-
@goosehd I see and makes total sense to me to have it removed.
However, my go-to strategy is also to mark my items as sold only AFTER I got confirmation of receipt by the buyer and everyone is satisfied with the transaction. Simple and does its job.
-
One of the things we can do is to lock threads when they are marked sold. When a thread is locked, no one can make any amendments…
Then the question is “what is a reasonable time until it is deleted?”
But the issue is once again, serial flippers buying items on the cheap from here, and using that sales information (pictures, etc.) to sell elsewhere. We have a hard enough time to get sellers to follow the rules here, and appreciate the ones who do. It is disappointing to see that the hard work you guys do in creating ads being used so that someone can make a quick buck elsewhere.

I do like the K.I.S.S. Principle and hate reinventing the wheel.
When I first started being a mod, the marketplace was an absolute mess with ads going back five years that had not been removed…people combing through those ads and bumping something from years ago that had long been forgotten. It took a year to whittle down those ads to something more manageable.
Personally, I do feel that the marketplace runs better more streamlined and tidier. Old ads are removed, scammers have been at a low, and it’s easy to spot something amiss.
Not saying you guys don’t have a good suggestion,I do think these discussions are valid and needed from time to time. Keep the suggestions coming and thank you!

Do a screen shot if worried about disputes

@Denimhead-0 excellent suggestion!!

And we thank you very much for that Dennis.....

This is just a random suggestion from which I see on other forums I use on their M2M marketplaces... but perhaps requiring sellers to have a "tagged pic" (such as their username and date beside ethe item they're selling) beside their items for sale to prove they actually have them in hand... as mentioned, some people steal pics and sell elsewhere, this prevents scammers pretending they have something and using someone elses pics.

I'm not against or for either option really, but I will offer two real use cases for a locked or archived thread.
I've caught scammers before by finding someone else's ad with the same pictures and everything in their post. I was able to see who sold and bought, did a little asking on the side, and found out that it was a scam.
Some forums require listing the price it sold for to help others price their items in the future. I think this is a little less value here with most clothing bc it's a pretty know retail price and established used market with relatively low variety. The other from I'm thinking of was for camera gear so you can imagine the wide range of things to price.

Then you can bitch if it ain't perfect.....
