When I first started being a mod, the marketplace was an absolute mess with ads going back five years that had not been removed.........It took a year to whittle down those ads to something more manageable.
And we thank you very much for that Dennis.....

This is just a random suggestion from which I see on other forums I use on their M2M marketplaces... but perhaps requiring sellers to have a "tagged pic" (such as their username and date beside ethe item they're selling) beside their items for sale to prove they actually have them in hand... as mentioned, some people steal pics and sell elsewhere, this prevents scammers pretending they have something and using someone elses pics.

I'm not against or for either option really, but I will offer two real use cases for a locked or archived thread.
I've caught scammers before by finding someone else's ad with the same pictures and everything in their post. I was able to see who sold and bought, did a little asking on the side, and found out that it was a scam.
Some forums require listing the price it sold for to help others price their items in the future. I think this is a little less value here with most clothing bc it's a pretty know retail price and established used market with relatively low variety. The other from I'm thinking of was for camera gear so you can imagine the wide range of things to price.

@pechelman my argument for the price it sold: is that should we encourage everyone to sell for the same price or should we encourage people to sell for what they think it's worth?
This marketplace isn't about people trying to make a profit and discourages flipping to do so. Just like the recent Ship John thread and people buying a limited item only to put it on eBay shortly thereafter trying to make a quick buck.
I have a strong bias against the entire practice across the board in all things (knives, watches, clothing, etc.), but that's my hangup...

limit the time to edit posts in that specific forum, like 10mins to work out errors and typos. after that, replies only. mods only can delete threads.
I delete my own sales threads when I’m done with it. In the three dots on the first post of a thread you created there’s a delete option.

Just want to say I really appreciate this resource and I did not intend to kick off a huge buy/sell forum debate. Was just suggesting posts could be left up a bit longer after a sale.
That being said, I’ve bought and sold a decent amount on here and only had one issue and was able to resolve it with the seller no problem.
So if you all want to go with status quo, that’s a much better alternative than causing everyone a bunch of strife over a minor issue.

Then you can bitch if it ain't perfect.....
