on that note. the triumph will happily sit anywhere between 3-7000 as it's sweet spot. given the redline of 10500rpm. the Ducati on the other hand is very unhappy and jerky below 4,000. you'll constantly have to keep it above 5,000 for it to be happy.

The Singapore motor show is on this weekend. it's also been raining non-stop since friday morning, not even intermittent showers, not stop pouring through the night! I have not seen the sun since friday.

with that said, I think everyone should know by now how expensive cars is in Singapore. lots of deal to be had at the motor show but it's crazy to think about when a civic or corolla costs about USD130,000.

for those that don't understand, the price consists of:

Original manufacturers Value (OMV)
Tiered Additional registration fee (140% to 320%) on top on the OMV
Certificate of Entitlement COE (the right to own a road going car)bid based system, at which it currently stands between USD60k to 90k for a piece of paper
Import taxes and GST
Dealer Margin (est to be about 30k per car they sell)

OMV: 40k
ARF: 49k
COE: 99k
GST and Duty: 12k
List price: 250k SGD

mostly japanese. the COE last 10 years and it makes no sense forking out 70k usd to renew it for a 10 year old car. so most of the fleet is pretty new. the asians also love their MPVs.

but with how expensive things have gotten post covid. 180k for japanese vs 210k for an entry level European (x1/ a class etc) most people are heading towards European made.

there are also specs you will never get in Europe because of the COE category system.

Cat A: cars below 1600cc and/or less than 130bhp
Cat B: cars above 1600cc and/or more than 130bhp

the X1 we've just gotten last year has the 1.3 turbo inline 3 but detuned to be less than 130bhp but huge on torque..

the zip tie is the off white design language..

I had no idea cars were that expensive in Singapore! Does this mean that driving personal vehicles is just out of reach for a lot of people? Or is there enough wealth floating around that most families can still afford it? How’s the mass transit? TIA for entertaining my questions.
