this thing dropped a lot of indigo on its first wash

Mostly sizing agent and not indigo.....

@Giles this begs the question, what is sizing agent?

        Take the dive...

Usually starch, it lubricates the weft and warp yarns when the fabric is being woven. This reduces friction and reduces the chance of the yarn breaking, which causes loom downtime, faults in the woven cloth and thus increased cost.

Is there also sizing / starch applied after the washing process, presumably, when the garments are ironed out nice and flat?

Man, this one is very tempting. The 16oz slubby denim of my 888s absolutely rocks.

Nope......It is an urban myth that starch is applied to jeans post construction. At least, there is no point and I know of no one who does so.

Just picked this bad boy up. Fucking love the look and the fit. Couple questions. Is it normal to have to unbutton the sleeve openings to take these jackets off? I can slide it on with buttons closed but can’t take it off without undoing them. Seems like it might be a pain but maybe with time they’ll stretch a bit. I don’t think going a size up will make sense, overall. It fits well. Second - should I soak this first or just start wearing it?

@PDXPean it should stretch some, but i do find myself undoing buttons on jackets and snaps on CPOs to take them off. Kind of by habit. After its broken in, its easy to do so with one hand. No need to soak it.

@PDXPean IH hot washes most (all?) of their non-leather/technical clothing at the end of production, if I'm not mistaken. Thusly, soaking is redundant, and shrinkage will typically be very minimal.

Plenty of stretch with this fabric though.
