Just grabbed my first pari off 634 in the 21 oz fabric. Being a bit long, I'll definitely need to hem. How much will these shrink in length after the first cold wash or soak? I would prefer to hem sooner than later, but don't want to run into the problem of them being too short after a wash. got the size 34/34. Suggestions?

I'm thinking of giving them a warm soak after my first wear, to eliminate the shrinkage, then get them hemmed so the fades wear into the proper locations. I don't want honey combs developing in the wrong spots once they shrink slightly and start to crease in new locations.

@Edward42 a warm soak alone will not shrink the jeans, you also need agitation, as described here by Giles. And as he mentioned just above me, they have been washed already, so no more shrinkage

If you return them to IHUK for hemming your best course of action is to email them at shop@ironheart.co.uk and they will get you sorted

Agitation will make no difference when they are sanforised and one-washed 🙂

@Edward42 the IH-634S - 21oz. Indigo is sanforized & one-washed, so there is negligible to no shrinkage remaining, as long as you wash them 30 degrees Celsius with low or no spin, and hang dry, there shouldn’t be any shrinkage. No need to soak/wash before hemming.

Thanks for the beta. I was assuming but needed the extra nudge to hem pre-home wash as I strongly dislike owning expensive denim that is too short.
I own an lIH 295 denim shirt that definitely didn't shrink more than 2 mm, so that gives me some confidence.

In for this drop, bit torn on sizing. I went 34 with the 634 UHRs and the waist is snug but perfect imo - they officially measure 35.2 prewash. For these I was thinking to go 35 which is 34.5. Is that a good place to be taking into account for a bit of stretch?

@rasta UHR is the only denim from IH that you should buy accounting for stretch or shrinkage. All other denims, including the 21oz, should be sized to fit you perfectly when new; based on the posted measurements for each individual run.

If your UHR fit perfectly now, measure those and buy the size nearest to those measurements.

The above comment should be read with all the levity your current metal state will allow.

You can also slightly under size them to account for potential stretch. Say your ideal is a waist of 34”, you could size down to 33.5” to accommodate for the potential .5”-1” in stretch. This will keep the pair looking more like they do when new rather than slightly baggy later on.

However, that’s saying your weight doesn’t fluctuate with age and time…

@goosehd I have read the recommendation to size slightly smaller in the waist as you can expect some stretch but what about thighs with any of the 21oz denim.

For me sizing down for the waist may make the thigh somewhat tight as that is what I primarily have issues with. I seem to be always caught between sizes because of my thighs.

For instance, I would love to have a 35” waist with a 14-14.2 thigh. Thighs usually puts me at a size 38. But if I could get close to the 35” waist and say end up with a 13.5-13.7 thigh would this work because of stretch?

@Ral1121 Stretching thighs and you could see .25” in stretch. Not a lot and would be harder to do.

@goosehd yes I have looked a the 888s and that is most likely what I am going to go with but looking at their size charts I seem to have the same issue although sometimes you can get a 36” waist with a 14” thigh which is closer

Ask if there is a tag 36 with a larger thigh once they go live - but risk them selling out before you get an answer
Or, order a tag 36 and place a note in your order that you want the pair with the largest thigh. We may not find a pair, so you will get a refund
