I’m thinking Friday. Not sure if /where it will be streaming. I was with some friends, and we were coming out of the 42nd Street library(April 1970)and we weren’t paying attention to where we were going and we just about bumped into him. He had just spoken at the first ever Earth Day. He told us about a short story he had written which,at the time, was the first with an obscene title…Called The Great Space Fuck. I think the title was subsequently changed. Philip Jose Farrmer wrote a book,as a tribute, to Kurt, under the name Kilgore Trout, called Venus on The Half Shell. Highly recommend it.

Man, what an awesome encounter!  I'm bummed that I didn't really learn about him until after he passed. I would've written to him.

      Blanket-line all the things!!!

And now I can’t stop thinking about how criminally under appreciated Daniel Woodrell is as an American writer. Here is a great article from esquire for whoever might be interested. Goes into detail about his painful No Reservations episode.

        https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/books/a24632/daniel-woodrell-outlaw/

wonderful writer and overlooked is right. I thought when Winters Bone was filmed he might take off and with writers like Donald Ray Pollock getting noticed it seemed Woodrells time had come

My top 1 favorite artist is Jerry Garcia, and Scorsese is slated to direct and co-produce a biopic on the Dead with the surviving members, one of Jerry's daughters, and other people who give me hope this won't be a dumpster fire attached as executive producers. Jonah Hill gets the nod as Jerry (I like him. I can't picture anyone in the role, so I don't have an opinion on that yet).

The quality of Scorsese's work has declined with his age, but he did a good documentary about the Dead fairly recently and this is his first music biopic, so I really hope he crushes it.

My hope is that most of the focus is on the formation and early days of the band in the 60s and early 70s, and that crazy cast of characters including the Merry Pranksters.

          Think it, be it.

@Bfd70 wicked top 5! Pogues should make it on the album title alone 😉

Since we’ve had TOOL mentioned here numerous times, we should also add PRIMUS to the mix…

Difficult to say which is their best album, but for now I’ll suggest:

PRIMUS - Sailing the Seas of Cheese

Primus opened for U2 (ZooTV tour) back in ‘92.  I had never listened to Primus before and only listened to about 5 minutes worth at the concert before I walked out.  Haven’t listened to them since.

I just didn’t get it, and never bothered to look them up again.

                        Am I missing anything?

Yes, Les Claypool is arguably the greatest bass player ever! If one is  looking for heavy slap bass and hard hitting drums, with a blend of funk and thrash metal, then Primus is the answer.

                            To each his own.

There's no law saying you have to like Primus. Les Claypool is weird, writes weird lyrics, has a weird voice, and plays the bass weirdly, applying a modified banjo clawhammer technique to the instrument. I am quite surprised they managed to get the level of popularity they did.

Breaking Bad is probably my favorite drama of all time, in any medium, and also my favorite TV show. I might place Mr. Robot up there too.

On the sunnier side of the street, Seinfeld is in the list, as is Always Sunny.

Might be lacking 'classics' but my listening habits have tended to be centred around new releases over last last decade or so…

                                          1. Hellfire, black midi - A cohesive concept album about life, sin and hell, and the tightest 40 minutes of experimental rock I've ever heard. In fact it's almost insulting to label it that due to the vast array of genres the band draw from on this record…

                                          2. Magdalene, FKA Twigs - The most beautiful record I've ever heard. The production is absolutely insane and I'm still noticing new nuances and flourishes on each listen.

                                          3. American Beauty, The Grateful Dead - This one sent me down the never ending rabbit hole of Grateful Dead live sets, but nothing comes close to what this record makes me fell as a standalone experience.

                                          4. Blond, Frank Ocean - An absolute odyssey of experimental, psychedelic R&B/Hip Hop. Such a raw and honest insight into the artist's life and mind with truly transcendental production.

                                          5. Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, Sturgill Simpson - Opening up with my favourite song of all time, Turtles All The Way Down, Sturgill draws influence from Tibetan Buddhism and various psychedelic experiences to make sense of his experiences in life and love. I find such beauty and poignancy in his insights and would recommend this album to everybody I know.

“𝑁𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑙𝑒𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑢𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑏 𝑦𝑜𝑢. 𝑌𝑜𝑢 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑚𝑒𝑒𝑡 𝑖𝑡, 𝑖𝑓 𝑦𝑜𝑢 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑡𝑜, 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑎𝑚𝑒 𝑤𝑒𝑎𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑜𝑛 𝑤ℎ𝑖𝑐ℎ 𝑡𝑜𝑑𝑎𝑦 𝑎𝑟𝑚 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑎𝑔𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑡.”
