Fort Brockhurst is one of 5 similar forts strung across the Gosport peninsular, built as a defensive measure against The French attacking Portsmouth overland from the north.

It was open to the public today (there was a Christmas tat market within it), and I have been desperate to get inside ever since we have lived here, so we went.
I was truly overcome by the beauty and enormity of it, especially when you consider that all of Palmerstons other folly's were being built at or around the same time. John Maynard Keynes would have been uber-proud…..

I'm really not sure what they are actually trying to tell me….
The large eyes that the chains retarding the recoil from the big guns are affixed to, are mounted in granite…
Small eye mounted in sandstone under the notice, so I guess this was subject to lesser force…

Casement showing damage from a wayward WW2 German bomb, the target would have been the dockyard, not a redundant 19th century fort….

@mclaincausey We were lucky with our two (kind of) as the one loved edamame and the other one wanted fries. They both liked rice so that was always a good choice.

At swimming lessons for the kids and this is the view from the front doors…
It took me 1.5 hours to shovel our driveway and plow our laneway yesterday (about a km in length). If we do get the 60-80 cm’s, I’ll have to do that a few times during the storm.
Guess I can just get my workout in nature’s gym.

Might want to make sure 1.) he/she is alone and 2.) no wires have been chewed. Mice and rats can cause major havoc and depending on your make and vintage of vehicle, some manufacturers unwisely used a soybean based coating for electrical components which are quite attractive to critters.
