IH-752-IND - 13.5oz Denim Baker’s Pants - Indigo

This style is based on the military fatigue/utility pants worn by U.S. troops in the 1950s, offering a wider, more relaxed fit and a higher rise than many of our cuts. In Japan, these are referred to as “baker” pants, as their defining square patch pockets are thought to resemble loaves of bread.

While developing this 13.5oz denim, Shinichi Haraki found inspiration in his favourite pair of Levi’s 646 bell-bottom jeans from the mid-1970s. The warp yarn is rope-dyed indigo in the traditional manner, then sulphur-dyed with a grey dye to impart a darker hue — a technique commonly used by Levi’s at the time. The long slub, neppy warp yarn and natural slub weft create a heavily nepped finish on both the face and reverse of the fabric, resulting in a soft, flexible denim packed with vintage character.

In addition to the unique denim, other key features of these pants include flap-down rear pockets with secure button fastenings, a brass zipper fly, and rear waist cinches—allowing the fit to be adjusted without a belt.
