All Things Mac/ Apple

I much prefer touchid to face id personally
-
@mclaincausey they both have their advantages. I’m fine with either one. I actually like the finger print reader though

-
@Chibs why do you use maps like this and not car play? is that a Tesla?
the down side of the duo was the lack of the third camera and prores/raw photo formats.
-
@louisbosco Yep, no Carplay in Tesla. It's onboard nav is good but doesn't warn me about police / speed traps.
The longish lens is a downside for some but I end up using the main lens and even the wide one more.
I don't use pro-res / raw.
Actually, I always shoot raw, just never on a phone. Do you use those formats on yours? If so, you're the first I've come across. Couldn't imagine it gives you much latitude / dynamic range for edits, at least compared to full frame sensors. I'm sure there's a point / use-case for it or apple wouldn't have it. I just don't shoot anything serious on my phone. So I guess the downsides don't effect me. It was time to upgrade my 16 Pro Max and to me the 18pro max would have been more of a sidegrade. The Duo feels new and effn amazing. Reminds me of ipod 3rd gen with it's metal sides and the large screen is such a pleasure for watching content and even a bit of multitasking. Coolest thing they've put out in a long ass time!

@Chibs yeah was recently looking at EVs but rules Tesla out because of the lack of CarPlay and the very basic interior. I still prefer the ecosystem of CarPlay with Waze.
I've been shooting in RAW for a few years now with the iPhone. in fact, I've started to be more reliant on the phone. I'm sure there's some aspects of shooting wide open or higher shutter speed where it's impossible as the iPhone doesn't have manual adjustment on depth or shutter speed. things like f16 and long exposure for light stars etc.
the last DSLR i used was a 6D and I was looking around for another camera (X100T, R5/6) a couple of years back before deciding to shoot exclusively on an iPhone. I mean none of it is serious (for work) etc but I do enjoy shooting whenever I'm on holiday. I went from the 16pro to 18pro. zoom lens is definitely a lot better. not a big upgrade but definitely decent enough.
the duo's form factor is nice. I still need to make time to go see one in person

Adding CarPlay would be one of only 2 things I’d change about my car. The other is to give back the stalk for signaling left / right. They put that on the bloody steering wheel.
Other than that it’s my favourite car. Sadly they’re not making it any more so perhaps my next will have car play and stalk
. Our new GLS has wireless CarPlay and it’s sooo nice. Gas guzzling beast though.
As for shooting raw on iPhone, that’s cool you found your use case. The way my phones handle photos of my fam, dog, and food, I’m not sure I’d see much of a difference. Using the main lens for selfies is an actual upgrade. A bit awkward though tbh. Hopefully I get used to it.
-
@Chibs think of it like a Ferrari. they have indicators on the steering wheel too. I guess that'll make it feel much better

yeah one of my irks is after switching from jpeg to raw, I then forget to switch it back. after that the next 10 random shit photos I take are all in RAW, which is pretty annoying.
GLS is nice. unfortunately not sold in the market I'm currently in. would be around USD750k. currently looking between a GLC400 electric and an iX350

I was in need of a new home computer that would last me many years; I try to keep and use all my equipment as long as possible. Since I'm not really a power user any new Mac with enough ram would serve me well. I opted for a mac mini with the M6 chip (24GB/512GB version). So far, I'm very happy with my new tiny machine.
-
@RobeOfTheMagi Mac Mini’s are awesome machines. I use one for my daily workflow and as a Plex server for all my media on my NAS servers. Works great.
-
@1WayTrip My M1 Macbook Air felt like a vast improvement over all of the intel MacBooks and now the M6 feels like a rocket ship to me.
