@goosehd based on frequency it's cam rpm, not crank rpm. heads completely rebuilt, so it's not a valve. all lifters cleaned and reassembled. only guess is that a lifter is losing pressure under load, because the noise takes some time to appear after startup. don't really want to break in new lifters on this old cam...

@tody plans to rebuild the bottom end? Leads to the second question, how do you plan on using it? Weekender or daily driver?

Plan is to go through the front end first, finally dial in the diff properly (you need a spreader for the housing on a dana 30) and double check the brakes in the process. Engine has been this way ever since i slapped it back together when i got the rig, so it'll survive some kms more i guess.

The gearbox blew on the way home from work last night and I proceeded to drive 52 kms through the city and the country to get home with only second and fifth gear!

@Lukenstein good bus them. Gunna get a new gearbox or time to retire? Still plenty to go with 500k from a D4D

@Lukenstein yeah it is hard, I had a 80 series that I loved that much that I just kept throwing money at it. It was a beast
                      Eventually though I bought a 76 series
                      Always wanted a 79

Plenty of pimping options available in Japan, and plenty on Rakuten, so I think I may be getting regular care packages sent over.....

                                Something along these lines, perhaps?
