Samurai Elemental SMN25-01

@derek111 it’s a beautiful texture, color, fabric. Regular photos appear more like a grey or light blue oxford type shirt. Much thicker, and cool design with the extra elbow / forearm layer. Overall nice heft and weight to it. I would definitely size up in this shirt.
-
I really like that extra elbow feature on Samurai shirts.

It's been a heck of a week for new gear for me. My wife said she wanted to get me a new shirt to celebrate some recent work success. We narrowed it down to the IHSH-326-BLK and the Samurai 'Sengen' Jacquard Work Shirt. I chose the 326 and thought it was over. As it turns out, she (sneakily) got me both.
Just wanted to give some love to the Sengen here. It's got a great drape, almost like a light/medium weight knit blanket. Airy but very soft. You can't really see the pattern that well in new stock photos but from my closeups below, hopefully you can tell the pattern + the indigo/indigo gives it interesting fade potential. I love the cat's eye, mother-of-pearl style buttons too. If I had any criticism, I wish the top button was a little lower. It's in an awkward place where unbuttoned is too much chest, but buttoned is too restrictive to movement. But not a big deal with the shirt being so soft. The one I got from Rivet and Hyde is part of their "western" lineup so the XXL I got fits more like a traditional Japanese XXXL. It's a little billowy at the moment, but I prefer that to tight these days, and I'm thinking it may come in and mold a bit over time with wear/washing.
Here it is right out of the bag:
This is after a hot wash and hot dry:

@northsouthdenimguy Ran across your post a couple weeks ago and saw the black baker pants are a limited release. Wanted these so grabbed a pair and love them. Definitely gonna grab the green as well. Love the drape and how they wear. They fit loose on me but don't look overly baggy. Really comfortable.
-
I have yet to wear the black ones yet…but exactly what you said loose fit but not overly baggy at least with the green ones. I need to wear the black ones this weekend.

-
@northsouthdenimguy I'm just glad I saw your post when I did because my size is pretty much sold out now. I would have been pissed off if I missed out on these hahaha.

I've been rocking the Samurai 19oz in the 510 cut, the Kiwami denim. This one just blows my mind. Just as good as the IH 634S.
-
Sadly, I can no longer fit 634s as the thighs are too tight.
I have since purchased some ONI 200s, and the thigh fit is good.
I am looking for a unicorn pair of jeans that combines the fabric/colour/fade similar to the IH-634S-B (sulphur dyed) with the thigh width of the ONI 200, but preferably in a mid-rise.
AI has recommended the Samurai S5000BK II "Zero". However, I am unfamiliar with Samurai Jeans.
What do you guys think? Open to all brand suggestions.
-
@Bridger I wouldnt say that fit compares to the oni 200 really at all.
Maybe naked and famous have done a black selvedge mij in their strong guy ? -
@the246guy I agree …..510 is a nice relaxed cut for me, have been rocking the 21oz version most of the winter. Hope the new IH 684 fits similar.
-
Thanks @nytimes_gaiden - that's a brand that has not been on my radar.
-
@Bridger they are hit and miss though a bit cheaper than the Japanese brands. But they have definitely made a LOT of different denims over the years. definitely double check but the strong guy and Oni 200 are both wide/ straight cuts. The samurai 5000 is straight as well but not really very wide, shorter at the top, and smaller in the top block.
-
@Bridger try sizing up with the 510 ?
-
That's useful to know, thanks @nytimes_gaiden
-
Thanks for the suggestion @BD81

@BD81 IH 684 is also something that I have my eyes on. The relaxed fit is what I'm also after. The 634 somehow is still a bit snug.
