Random Rants

We don’t hear from @Walery-Smirnoff often but when we do I always enjoy it.

Every time someone adds an apostrophe s to a restaurant name, it drives me insane. Not really, but I’m watching murder docs like I do every Sunday morning, and this popped into my head.
It’s not “LongHorn’s.” It’s LongHorn. Same thing with “Kroger’s” and “Aldi’s.” It’s Kroger. It’s Aldi.
My buddy does this with the little steak place we meet at every weekend. “Hey, what time are you going to Little Alley’s?” No. It’s Little Alley, not “Little Alley’s.” We are not meeting at Mr. Alley’s personal steakhouse.
I do not get why people add an unnecessary possessive to certain names like that. If the sign does not have an apostrophe, where are we getting it from? The only time it makes sense is when the place is actually named that way, like Wendy’s. Otherwise it just sounds like we all decided to invent an owner and then commit to the bit forever. Like who is this guy LongHorn, and why are we all eating at his place?

@northsouthdenimguy we can meet up at Ruth’s Chris right after I stop at the Costco’s

-
My wife says Costco’s

-
@northsouthdenimguy it seems the Apostrophe Protection Society has relaunched after closing in 2019. Maybe they can help ease your pain.

Let’s hope’s so

Two weeks until that furry little rodent sticks his head out to see his shadow or not…He’d better not see his f’n shadow.
My plans for today: Blizzard conditions with near zero visibility. Westerly winds gusting up to 90 km/h. Wind chills near minus 20. Snowfall accumulations of 20 to 40 cm. Locally higher amounts possible.

@goosehd good luck. There’s clearly a price to pay for living in such a beautiful place.

@IrishHeart Thank you! The lake is a temperamental mistress, so beautiful but turns deadly quick. They call it an inland sea with everything from riptides to massive waves that have sunk quite a few ships over the years.
You tend to forget when she’s calm and beautiful. This is just a reminder of what she can do…

@Tago-Mago They all are quite nasty when they want. Lake Erie is shallow and when the winds whip across her can get really bad. If I recall correctly Superior has sunk the most ships with Michigan close behind.
I love them all, but have a deep respect for what they can do.
Correction: Michigan takes the honour of sinking the most ships.
