@Travis2375 I'm a shorter, chubbier (and uglier) version of "model Sam B", and this is the size M A2 with the size M slubby overshirt. Probably just enough room to layer a hoodie under there as well — although I'm not sure I'd ever need to, as this combo was pretty warm as it is!

At last the weather has turned here so had a chance to give this a run. Super warm and a great fit. More than enough for UK weather but if I lived in Northern Europe or Canada/part of the US I would need an N1. Couple of design flaws, there should be a press stud in either side of the breast pocket as arm movement makes the side curl up and the press stud for the collar makes using it too tight. Apart from that nailed it and the oiling is awesome. Super dry.

I'm a good old Canadian, and this seems perfect for layering. I'm on the fence about l or xl, as it has to be able to zip up all the way with layers, 6ft, 190lbs and about the same as Sam B in measurements. Is there a huge difference in l to xl for me?

I have a XL in the original whipcord version. I’m 6’ 175 and could probably fit into a Large with no problem, but the XL gives plenty of room for layering. I can wear a Dehen sweater underneath and still not feel constricted. I would love to try a Large (mine was a eBay purchase at a great prices)but given your height and weight and wanting to layer, I think the Xl would work well. I’m finding the shoulder measurements to be one of the more critical measurements for me to be comfortable in IH.

Thought I would give my thoughts on this. A solid 8/10. More than warm enough for the UK and whilst the oiled has only come into use twice out of many wears it has held up to the rain admirably and wiped straight off. Wasn’t a fan of the oiled version to start but now it has worn off slightly it looks much better.
A couple of niggles though. The central button on the breast pocket is a major design flaw as the left hand side sticks up annoyingly within seconds of brisk walking. It needed a popper on either side, not just the middle. The waist cinches are useless as they revert back to loose within seconds of tightening. Would have loved an inside pocket too and the zip can be a royal pain in the butt to do up but all in all a decent coat and has held up to many a dog walk.

I have the N1 oiled black in L - that I wish was a little roomier in the chest and shoulders without having to size up to XL. Would this jacket give me that extra space in L? Or should I size up to XL? I'm thinking ahead of time if it ever comes back 🙂

@rovdjurstorget until the jacket comes back, it would be impossible to say until the new batch is measured. Dimensions may change between runs making any advice offered now unhelpful in the future.

I notice the A2 is no longer advertised on the IHUK website.
                              Has this model been retired?
I bought one from Rivet and Hide in London in January 2026.
I think it’s great, it’s only now starting to settle in.
I’m taking mine to Vancouver at Christmas and the wild west coast of Vancouver Island.
I know the N1 has always been the more popular model for a heavy jacket, and now it looks like the lightweight N1 will be a popular choice too, but I prefer this A2.
Maybe it now becomes more of a collector’s item…

@CraigM I don’t know if the A2 has been retired or not and also can’t understand how it would make it a collector’s item if so. Maybe it’s an aspect of the market I don’t understand, but the rarity of a clothing item doesn’t make it collectable or does it? I tend to buy only items I like, want to wear, and could be in the minority in that regard.

I do know that getting caught up in hype will drive people to buy things they don’t like, only to try and make a profit later on. I have not seen this happening with denim and specifically IH. To be honest, I hope that it doesn’t happen and that people have a similar aspect of wanting well made clothing, they like, want to wear, and value for what it is instead of what it could be.

Seasonal items do not get retired, they just don't get made again. Well, sometimes they do if they are super popular, but we can't continue to make everything that is released as a seasonal item. We'd have thousands and thousands of SKU's......

I would say that our approach to seasonal items is that they are just that, seasonal. Unless it becomes obvious that it should become constant, and we have the fabric, resources and wherewithal to make it again.

Sometimes seasonal items prove to be popular, and we make them again in a future collection.
