      I think what we are talking about is the absolute essence of the question, which can be boiled down to, "What size do I take?" Everything else is pure fluff......

                Is there a reason that some shirts have chain stitching runoff and some do not? Is it to do with the cut of the shirt? Feel like I'm missing something obvious.

                  @gaseousclay:

                  don't know if this has been answered before but i'm curious why some shirts have the chainstitch runoff while others don't. I noticed that pretty much all Western UHF's don't have it but denim Westerns do. likewise, the UHF workshirts have the runoff as well as other random workshirts. Is there any significance to this?

                  Here are our "rules"  😃

                  All our shirts that have a gusset will have chainstitch run-off
                  All our workshirts have a gusset
                  Westerns typically don't have a gusset unless we want it to look more workshirty

                          Two stupid questions from me:
                          Have given my first UHF shirt its first wash. Was tagged M and was just a tad too big, gave it a cotton wash at 40 with my normal shirts with the full normal spin. It has shrunk a little, am now v happy with the fit. Is there a risk of further shrinking if I inadvertently give it a ‘full’ wash again?

                          Second question is how much fabric is used up in hemming?
                          Just had a pair of 634 SB back from hemming. Unfortunately I didn’t measure the leg length before sending them back, but when cuffed them to work out the length I wanted, I did have around 3cm of cuff.
                          When they were returned with the removed material. It was only around the width of the chainstitch, around 1cm, not the 2.5 to 3 cm I expected.

                          Makes me feel a bit foolish asking for them to to be hemmed by such a small amount

                            1st question answer - you've probably got rid of most of it, but there could be a tiny amount left.

                            2nd question answer - we need to cut 2.5cms longer than the finished length

                                  @Pinkpan pure guestimation is how I do it. My 555S-SBG are what I wear daily at the moment, and I got them when they last restocked so work back from that!

                                  If you're really set on it, keep a tally digitally I suppose.

                                      @Pinkpan not super applicable for shirts, but for jeans I bought some little leather patch fade logs and I store them in the little "change" pouch on the right pocket, and I take them out, mark with a a sharpie & put them on my dresser before bed at night so I can tell if I remembered to do it or not. The only problem is one of them fell out of my pocket once! So the aesthetic is nice, but digital certainly works better if you can remember to do it.

                                        Here is a blank chart in a Google Document. You may want to add column on the right for number of washes. Just make a copy if you want to use one.
