IHJ-49 - Split Steer Modified Type III Jacket - Black or Brown
-
Just slightly more dry than before. I have owned it for about three to four years now. I haven’t done anything in terms of maintenance so wasn’t sure if I need to?
-
Soon 10 yrs old first run jacket, no maintenance. it was hiding a bit and now back like the new runs. What a Beauty.

@davito2 wow! 10 years?!! It looks great. I obtained one through a trade a few months ago, and I’ve been itching to wear it ever since. Hopefully the weather starts cooling down soon so I can actually wear it consistently.
I wore it once recently for date night with my wife. I noticed the black ink transfer all over my white shirt and hands once I got home. Did you experience any transfer? If so, how long did it last?
-
Hi @caithangkhanh Thank You, yes I got one out of the first run when it came out in late 2016. I havent worn it that much yet and havent noticed any crocking so far yet.
Thats Nice to Hear about your Date Night, wear and Enjoy your jacket and Enjoy many Dates with your wife.
-
@Mizmazzle thank You. Nice to hear , rock it
-
How different is that from the upcoming Horsehide Suede Modified Type III Jacket? Both have the same cut, the same colour and the same hardware (it seems)....
-
@Mizmazzle that jacket looks great, but the whole outfit is

@AdamJ I keep thinking about picking one of these up — are they in production for the colder months, or undetermined at this point?
-
@caithangkhanh thanks yo!
-
@popvulture Fabric being sorted but won't be here 'till next year
-
@AdamJ gotcha — thanks man

-
@Alex thanks, and I should have been more precise in my question: Given that you have here (soon) 2 Jackets with the same cut, same colour and same hardware, but with the leather being the only difference: can you describe the difference in leather? I am asking since those are two very similar looking products, one at almost double the price, where (unlike with many other leather jackets) the difference in leather is actually not obvious (for non leather-geeks).

@AdamJ said in IHJ-155-BLK - Horsehide Suede Modified Type III Jacket - Black:
@jackbrochill It is a little lighter than the Steer IHJ-49, also has a smoother surface. The steer has a rougher hand feel.
We ran a Sheepskin Type III a few years back which from memory, was very soft. But hard to make a direct comparison.
I personally feel this is one of the sleepers in the collection but, appreciate it's one of those things you need to see/feel to believe!
-
@Tobi Although they look similar in the photos, the split-steer is a heftier leather with a courser hand. This gives the jacket a weightier feel and slightly rougher outer, requiring less care compared to softer suede — the split steer can definitely take a little more abuse!

Adding to what Sam said above. Costs have been soaring in Japan. When we cost and price new releases, we obviously take the current costs into account, on legacy products, we do not reassess costing/pricing until we do a rerun, and sometimes not even then (we just stick to the old pricing and get hosed). So the bad news is, expect the pricing of the IHJ-49 to rise sharply at some point....
