Last week I was excited that I had booked plane tickets to Nepal and Thailand for this winter. Yesterday and today I’ve been watching mass protests, fires and the Nepalese government being overthrown . The latest I’ve heard is that the airport has been shut down and is in the control of the military. I’m hoping things have calmed down by the beginning of December and the country is still open …

@endo That is so awesome to hear! Do you know which areas you’ll be heading to? My wife is meeting me in Thailand after the Nepal leg of the trip and are planning a couple of weeks in the North around Chiang Mai / Pai area. It was your pictures of you and your son in the mountains that pushed me over the edge and made me buy the plane tickets
@T4920 Hey Tom, are you heading to Thailand this year?
@Crease I remember you went to Nepal earlier this year … what trek did you end up doing?

@Denman-John I was there on a trip with my church so we didn't do any of the typical treks. We hiked to some remote villages in Gyangphedi and Gorkha. Then we went to Pokhara and hiked to the Australian basecamp for Annapurna. It was very smokey and cloudy when we were there though so didn't get great views unfortunately. Pokhara was a cool town with a lake. We got to explore Kathmandu with some of our local contacts also which was such an experience, like nothing else I have ever seen! One of the guys let me ride his motorcycle through the streets and it was total chaos and so much fun! Glad it was peaceful when we were there, such terrible stuff that happened recently.
Not sure if you have been there before, but the airport was also a bit of a chore to fly out of. I think I heard they only have one runway for international flights so we ended up sitting in the plane for like 2.5 hours before taking off. Was still a great experience to go!
