Spent a weekend in Zell am see at a cycling event I sponsored for work and kicked it with Ferdi Porsche on the Großglockner. Drove me up the mountain in the GT3 RS and down in the 911 Dakar. Awesome weekend of fast bikes and fast cars.

Well that was unexpected, pretty good show though. I think McLaren is going to have to work some things out lol. The rest of this season could be more exciting than anticipated.

Let them race... Er not so much. Really weird fucking call. I don't know why a slow pit stop for Lando is Oscar's problem. Shit call.

@Bridger they should def just let them race. I don’t think that call was to make it Oscar’s problem. Looked to me like it was their weird way of taking the heat for screwing Lando up. Oscar didn’t lose anything his team didn’t give him unintentionally. They weren’t at much risk of being caught. If anything they stoked the rivalry a little by putting them in a potential battle that could have ended badly. All in all, an inconsequential fuck up that didn’t do much more than raise eyebrows.

@WhiskeySandwich I think it just came down to Monza being a fast track, McLaren lost their aero and tyre preservation advantage. I think we'll see a return to regular McLaren 1-2 going forward.

As an Aussie, I'm pumped for Oscar leading the championship, but I still want to see them race.

Azerbaijan next, my favourite circuit, if I could go to a race in person, this would be my pick - I don't know why, but I just click with it.

@ManiacLachy good points you have for sure. I thought it was their suspension where they had a big advantage tho? Also didn’t seem like they had any problems making those medium tires last till they could run softs. Max switched to hard and still finishing with a 19 second gap - reminds me of the big RB advantage a year or so ago. Who knows tho, I think you’re right and McLaren ain’t gonna drop off. Congrats on your Aussie points leader, I’m sure he’ll be the #1.

Giving the place back was absolutely the right call. Lando was faster than Piastri as he demonstrated when he put distance between them even when Piastri had DRS after giving the spot back. This would have marked two races in a row where Lando was screwed by non racing issues.

@mclaincausey yeah they had good reason to swap positions...and Lando DID mention the undercut possibility to his engineer before either pulled in and he was given reassurance that he wouldn't lose the position to his teammate. If there's anyone to blame, its left front gun man.

Yeah. I see both perspectives on it. On the one hand a slow stop is part of racing and not OP’s fault. On the other, he has a large buffer, Lando got fucked by still more bad luck the race before, Lando was quicker, and Lando ultimately did him the same favor when the team made a strategy error at Hungary last year. OP may have been PR coached on it but he commented after the race that he thought it was fine.

The reaction of race fans is kinda weird to me, people are really outraged about a team decision (the tifosi unfairly booing Lando, and forum reactions on Reddit, Instagram, etc) they have nothing to do with. Team orders have always been a thing. It’s just not really a big deal, and if it is, not really anyone’s business but the team’s.

Is it a shame for them not to be butthurt about something they can’t control and aren’t involved in? To me that sounds like avoiding a pointless and futile waste of energy, but to each his own.

Obviously I am not sure what he did specifically to his employee(s), and I don't like him, but that payout is peanuts against the value delivered under his tenure, and I think he deserves a lot of credit for that value. Under his regime, 6 WCC and 8 WDC would have yielded a lot of direct revenue (esp WCC, but maybe there were some WDC bonuses too). Just thinking in terms of prize money his team earned Red Bull probably easily 10X that, and then there would be less direct but meaningful contributions such as their success drawing in more sponsors willing to pay more money to be associated with cars that have more prestige and get more airtime to show their logos.

So it might sound beyond the pale at first blush, but to me it is far more reasonable than most of the high level CEO payouts we see.

Seems like the Horner thing was just pure drama. I personally don't know and don't care what the circumstances were, but I do think think they did him pretty dirty relative to how little they revealed. At least that payout didn't downplay his contributions.

Max is an absolute animal. Not to say McLaren's luck has run out, but I think they're realizing just how fortunate they've been so far this season.

Wonder if McLaren will get it back together to hold off Max, who seems more pleased with the car than he’s been all season.
I’m sure they’ll clinch the wdc in Singapore but surely 100% of their efforts are for 2026 now (as are the rest) but there’s still a lot of potential for Max making it difficult all the way till the end.
