@ARNC , I haven't had the Goose Island collab. I'm not big on finished Bourbons. Now, a Goose Island stout, aged in Bourbon barrels would be a different story. I have had the rye. It's very good. But, for a significantly lower price, you could get this... https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/84434/green-river-rye , and be just as satisfied.

@scooter that black labeled Origin bottle from Bardstown was real tasty. I'd do it again. It's the only one i've tried from them though. Are any others a better buy?

It depends on your personal preference. The Origin black label is a wheated Bourbon. I'm a rye Bourbon kind of guy, so the white label is my preferred dram. It was very close to making my "always on hand list". But, it's a $42 bottle in my neck, and it just couldn't knock Four Roses single barrel off my list, which I can get for $45...

Thanks @scooter! Green River added to my wish list (currently growing faster than I can buy but I guess I’ll catch up eventually).

How do you guys drink whiskey? Do you drink a glass in the evening or do you prefer to drink vodka to the bottom of the bottle? It's hard to drink a lot of whiskey. Whiskey is not as easy to drink as vodka. I drink 250 ml of white water per evening.

I've decided that I'm going to stock a few bottles of hard liquer at work. The problem is that I can't put them in the fridge, and I dont have acces to large quantities of ice, so at the moment all I can think of is whisky, rum and brandy. And cocktails are pretty much out of the question.

Am I missing something, or should I just accept that unmixed dark spirits is what I can realistically expect under those circumstances?

Work bottles to me are always things that can be enjoyed neat. No need to stress over ice or cocktails or whatever. You can up the game here by bringing in a set of glencairn or other nice glasses. Whisky/Scotch is always at the top of the list as are aged/dosed rums for those who don't like Scotch. (e.g. something like ron zacapa 23)

I’m definitely getting nice glasses. I use Nachtmann at home and I’m very happy with them. They’re robust and have an old school vibe I like. They’re great for some cocktails as well.

@SKT For starters,it’s near impossible to get it up North, for any price. The back story for this bottle is that it was aged on the lower/cooler level of the warehouse, which necessitated that it be aged for an additional 8 months, which is supposed to have had an effect on the taste, and if that wasn’t enough it was aged in some specially made barrel. I’m a sucker for a backstory, and since I preordered it,it was only $67 plus tax, which came out to $74 out the door. I haven’t had any Eagle Rare in years and I’d be lying if I said I recognized the taste. At the end of the day,I really wanted to like it ,and it really delivered. Made me glad that I got 2 bottles. Back to your original question…Buffalo Trace owns the brand,as they do Blantons/Pappy etc. I can’t imagine although I don’t know for sure, that they use the same mashbill for all of them. I’ve heard that Elmer T. Lee is like Baby Blantons. P. S. Just did a little googling and it seems that most believe that Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace are the same mashbill, but all similarities end there.

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but it is genuinely something I’ve thought about a few times while reading this thread.. Why is it you guys in the US struggle to buy your own whiskeys? @Jett129

I purchased this bottle of Eagle Rare 10 at my local Tesco on a clubcard offer just before last Xmas for £29 and they had shelves full of it. It’s still widely available and even on Amazon.co.uk for £33. I might need to polish up on my geo-politics but it’s baffling how this can be shipped 4000 miles accross the planet and sold to us for almost half the price you guys are paying?
