@Anesthetist I have two rucksacks, my old Verbockel and a Loyal Stricklin, and I consider that too many! 😆

I'm tempted by the Matador collaboration too, but I'm not sure if I'll get one.

@Anesthetist good shout. If they aren’t seam sealing and patterning for water resistance, it doesn’t matter how water resistant the materials are.

I gotta say though, I do like Ultra. Dyneema has an appeal that to me is a bit more aesthetic and more organic. Ultra has a tech appeal: robust, light, and stiff, and it looks it. The stiffness can be good or bad depending on how the bag is designed and materials used.

        Think it, be it.

@tody I mainly liked the simple look of the one bag I bought, not sure about the backpacks etc. The material is really cool with a lot of texture, but the bags are otherwise very simple (e.g. there is no contouring in the lid, so in heavy rain any laptop etc is exposed from the gaps where the strap is attached). I actually bought a small purse from the (off) white material and like it quite bit.

If anyone is curious, the Matador X Carryology collaboration sold out pretty quickly. There was stock left about twenty minutes after it went live, but I didn't feel the need to drop $600 on the bundle...

I’ve gotten pretty hooked on traveling with my tom bihn techonaut 45 backpack. It’s kinda big but I like under packing it and having room for souvenirs if needed. Works great for work stuff with laptop sleeve, some org pockets, and rolling luggage sleeve but also does fine on hikes with comfy shoulder straps, some back panel breathability, and a decent hip belt. Mine is made of the lighter weight halcyon, which I don’t love the look and feel of as much as their heavy ballistic nylon but I sure appreciate the lighter weight and how well it stuffs into overhead bins and under seats. I have their synik 30 too, which I love the look and feel of, but it just doesn’t hold that much stuff and has too many org pockets for my needs. More of a backpack-based briefcase.

it is sturdy, just as expected from the backpack. the downside is a rather small opening at the top.

Carryology x Osprey including Osprey’s amazing ventilated carry system and a non-laminated ultralight UHMWPE fabric. Definitely interesting. The black looks unappealingly shiny though.

@mclaincausey it's also a thirty-litre pack, whereas most of the collaborations are around twenty to twenty-five, which makes it more useful for travel.

I'm curious to see what it ends up weighing. The base Archeon 30 is 3 lbs, and the Fujin is made of a lightweight fabric, but the Carryology designers have added features, so...

I agree that the black is very shiny.

                            I probably won't get one.

@Graeme yeah. My struggle with this one is I’d probably have to go white with it and I’m a bit torn on whether I’d want a white bag. Oh and also that I really don’t need it one bit.

There are some other photos on the Carryology Facebook page that show the Fujin as being less shiny. Apparently it picked up reflections from the studio lights, and it's more matte in real life.

                                  Osprey Fujin

I'm not sure if this is damage control, but the shiny aesthetic didn't appeal to a lot of people.

The weight is also 3.44 lbs or 1.56 kg, so slightly heavier than the base Archeon 30.

Carryology and Evergoods have collaborated on another pack, the Kludde.

                                    Carryology X Evergoods Kludde

It's based on the Evergoods MPL22, but it's made from ULTRA 200TX, all the hardware is aluminium, and the buckles are Cobra knockoffs. There is also a matching sling and tech pouch.

Of course, there's an overly verbose design article for your perusal, and it will be released on Wednesday at 10 am EST.

Please help me. I think I need a duffle bag that's (a) wheeled, (b) can also be worn as a rucksack and (c) has a volume of more than 50l.

Any suggestions? I know @Giles will suggest Ortliebs, which are great, and I'm atm tending towards the Patagonia Black Hole Wheeld Duffel, but I wonder if there are alternatives, and possibly cheaper options.

@endo I’ve been using the Black Hole wheeled duffels for a while now and love them. The airline bent/broke one of the wheels and Patagonia replaced it for free. Other than that, they have been issue free.

The wheeled bag can not be worn as a rucksack though…I do have the non-wheeled version and they work pretty well. The issue is that you can make them very heavy quickly and to carry it could be uncomfortable.
