My wife had the idea to plant milkweed in one of our gardens. The plants are doing great, and I have seen two monarchs so far in the area but I dont think they have found the milkweed quite yet.

@Oaktavia They are on the butterfly weeds that are in the Milkweed family. Buy some Butterfly weeds they bring lots of butterflies.

I think there are some of these on the Potomac by my house. They look a lot like milkweed?

@twin OK cool man, I will try to remember to take a photo or two next time I am down there. I just saw my third monarch this morning while mowing the feild by the milkweed. The tiger and zebra swallowtail have found the milkweed garden though.

Find this guy on my front doorframe - I think it’s a riband wave (Idaea aversata).

Wife and I were excited to pick our first tomatoes of the summer earlier this week. Only to find a tomato hornworm devoured out plant.

We have three different types of milkweed in the field garden. I was able to snap a couple shots of a small hummingbird hawk moth.

@twin here are the plants I was referring to yesterday. There are yellow flowered ones and pink. The pink ones were too far from the path to get a decent photo. I saw at least one monarch down by the river today but it could have been a few. Hard to tell when they fly around so much. I was also unable to get close enough to snap a photo of one. They were flying in fields on our way home from breakfast as well.

These plants are everywhere down there this time of year.

@Oaktavia The first one is Wild Bergamot second is Swamp Milkweed third is Tickseed Coreopsis. This one has seeds that stick all over your clothing if you walk into it in the fall.
