thanks @goosehd, and I dont disagree with you on the shoulders. I was somewhat expecting as this fabric relaxes it will drape more and maybe be less prominently off. I'll take a set of photos later today with a couple of layering options.

I think the large is about how most folks like their type 3, but I'd pick the XL. I always lean towards more functionality though and would prefer the option to comfortably layer while fully buttoned.

@pechelman Seriously, the jacket is so freaking great/my XL fits so well the thought of a backup did cross my mind. That said, I'm good w/ jackets for a good long while. Time to just wear the mofos.

I got an XXL in this round because my XL is slightly too snug and if I gain any weight it will be too small. The XL is definitely more fitted but I don’t want it collecting dust in the future if I can’t wear it.

It’s a shame, as the older OD looks better IMO and my replacement jacket isn’t quite as well put together as its predecessor. If I were you I’d keep the one you know you’re going to be able to wear.

Haha! I wouldn't expect anything less from you all. Love it. But really, I do truly only want one.

On the picture front, I went waaaay overboard doing unbuttoned and buttoned collages with a tee and then with a uhf. For FOUR different jackets. I'll spare everyone all 16 of them but the idea was to compare these jackets to ones I know well; to the 14IB noted above that fits on the big comfy side and the indigo lefty which is on the snug side. I was really hoping to find an in-between for this one. To me, the large od feels barley bigger in the torso than the lefty and the xl od feels slightly bigger than the 14ib but maybe mostly the same tbh (it's also an XL).

Ostensibly, the L OD is the better classic fit. Maybe it will relax/stretch? The XL od is a relaxed fit, more like a cpo sized to be a jacket vs a shirt.

14ib vs XL od (these read almost the same to me)

Does this look too sloppy? Thoughts if it will get worse or better as it breaks in?

No and IH denim always looks better as it breaks in.

@RobeOfTheMagi the mistake I’m making with mine is putting it in rotation as a summer jacket and then having 30•C plus summers.. I need to stick to it through this winter at the expense of my heavier stuff

I know it's only my 2 Cents, however I did lose almost half a Size on an 18Oz OD CPO Denim Shirt with a really hot Bath Soak (60° + with Woolite added and agitation).

This Denim also was not meant to shrink with having been through the aggressive OD process but sizing definitely went down across the board.

This was on an XL that was just a little loose. And final dimensions were almost right bang in the middle between L and XL averages which worked out to perfection.

The Woolite heped ensure no real colour loss.

                                    Hope this helps.

                                    Mark.

FWIW I think the XL looks fine, and will be more comfortable in all conditions. You’re just going to get more wear out of it, and be able to layer. No brainer for me to choose the larger one, here. The difference between it and the large is negligible enough that functionality wins for me every time.
