I used to know people that,from time to time,would by a share in a cow and get enough meat ,for probably,close to a year. So when it arrived it all had to be stored. I’m guessing?

@Jett129 Still can do that here at our local meat store/butcher. You can buy a quarter, side (1/2), or whole butchered and wrapped. It’s not a bad deal if you have space for it.

@GraemeE this reminded me of someone I used to work with 25+ years ago. IIRC she found a fresh roadkill deer and decided to take it home and butcher it herself - she caused a certain amount of consternation when someone rang her doorbell when she was halfway done and she answered covered in blood with a big knife in her hand!

@GraemeE IMO, for a family the best way to buy quantities of meat. We’ll do the same when feasible, and pick up chicken and/or pork to supplement to fill the freezer.
