New chickens. 2 black stars and 2 Easter eggers

@jordanscollected nice! Sucks they’re in such high demand that you have to go thru that. Glad I was early! So how many are you working with? Right now our 5 female ducks, one drake, 12 chicken hens, and one rooster are all cohabiting well enough. The rooster is horny as hell and pretty aggressive but hasn’t injured any of them. The drake (named Kendrick lol) does mate with the girl ducks but isn’t violent or anything. I’m working on a separate house for the ducks though because I think they’ll all be happier that way.
We got them all kinda around the same time so we just threw them all in together and let them figure it out. If we got a new batch though, I’d set up a sorta halfway house so they’re separated by just some wire fencing. That way they can interact and get used to each other but avoid full fights till they’re ready. Close but separate for at least two weeks is the word I heard.

@jordanscollected what’s the price for pullets out your way? If egg prices are up I’m sure they are too. I guess it answers the age old question of which came first.
-
@WhiskeySandwich we have 7 ducks, 2 males and 5 females. The 3 small ones are the ones we just got and the one male was trying to mate super aggressively. We have 6 chickens and they are house separate but they free range together.
The new ducks and chicken were $35 each and the money goes towards 4-H so we are happy to pay the prices.

Artemis update!
I can now pet her, but only when sitting on or kneeling near this rocking chair. She will not allow to be touched anywhere else in the barn. This week she jumped up onto my lap for the first time.
She also ran through an open door in the barn a couple weeks ago and made about a dozen dead sprint laps around the barn scared before we corralled her back in. That was an adrenaline rush for the entire farm.

Good to hear she’s slowly coming along.

A few updates from the farm.
We had a local guy build us a shed we will eventually be using for goats. Need to get fencing in first. No I’m not sure I actually want goats.
We’re slowly build some obstacles for the horses to climb on and over. Nola has done well, Beau has been an asshole about it.
We picked up a swing to hang from a tree near the round pen, and the sunsets haven’t disappointed.
I figured how to meet the auto pet door opened and I rigged up a kennel so the kittens can see out, and the chickens can see in. It’s called the window to the world.

I like the swing!

@motojobobo Thanks! It faces directly West, and we sit on it until the sun fades over the horizon every night these days.
