Casual Blazers to go with Selvedge Denim
-
@seawolf I don't have a good picture of me wearing it readily available right now but I've been wearing a MF continental jacket for years. The lapels definitely fold over and it has a more "regular" blazer look to it! I've worn the full suit to a bunch of weddings and semi formal events. To my memory the fourth button get's kind of hidden in the fold and doesn't really stick out too much.

@seawolf i have 1 of these in linen\cotton herringbone that I really enjoy and am able to pass off as "business casual" at work when the need arises

@sabergirl little to no shoulder padding, no canvassing, from my understanding
-
@Tago-Mago beat me to it!
-
Canvassing is the stuff that goes in between the sort of satin lining and the wool (or whatever the face of the jacket is)

I love a good blazer. I really lament the loss of two of my faves, Steven Alan (still exists, but nowhere near what it once was, before the company was sold) and Freeman's Sporting Club (permanently closed). If anybody's got any recs for well made ones a little above casual, I wouldn't mind hearing em.

I used to have loads when office work required something a little more formal, I’ve got 3 left, an unlined/unstructured tweed Polo one with patch pockets, a soft shouldered Brioni in a cashmere check and a slightly more formal Chester Barrie in a herringbone cashmere.
-
And for a soft tailoring/unstructured look, Drakes are probably the masters of that.

@seawolf In the same vein as your idea to roll the lapel down…. James Bond wears a 3 button rollover. It’s a 3 button that is made/pressed to be worn mostly as a 2 button. The 3rd button hole is visible towards the bottom of the left lapel. You pop the collar and button the 3rd button if the weather gets bad. I have mine made that way. It makes you feel 2% cooler.
-
@Go-For-Chill Hard to argue with that logic! Which Bond in particular?

i have several that i wear with jeans and boots (western). i’ll dig up and post a couple pics. coupled with a dress shirt or nice uncollared shirt looks sharp to me. form days where i had to wear suit & tie daily but occaisionally could wear denim vs slacks.

also check out IG men.in.mustard for similar look but usually with vest (waistcoat)

@seawolf here’s one of my continentals in the wild. Not quite the traditional cut of a formal blazer but makes for a great casual fit.

Salon boncoura has some awesome made in Japan jackets but pricey

I've just reminded myself that Billy Reid and Sid Mashburn have some good offerings — can be hit or miss, but def some keepers in there. Also I've seen quite a few cool jackets at that No Man Walks Alone shop, but their stuff seems to sell out pretty quickly.
This thread is also just telling me that I need to get off my ass and buy a new suit one of these days. I'm not the lanky indie rocker I used to be. Trying on the suit I have would be... comical to say the least.
