IHSB-BIGBUCK-BLK - Black Deerskin Western Shirt - The Big Buck

How does this wear compared to say a jacket or other IH shirt? Are people wearing it over tshirt or layering over something else? Definitely interested (in natural in particular) but haven’t tried leather shirt before.

@natefreezy I am one of those who snapped up a few years ago after the first production run. I have and have had many other IH shirts and a few jackets. What I can say is that the BigBuck cannot be compared to any other shirt or material from IH, as deerskin has completely different properties than cotton, for example (softness, coziness, weight...). It falls completely differently and wraps around the body in a very unique way. In my opinion, the fit is therefore much more important than with other shirts/fabrics, especially if you are not wearing it as an outer layer. Since I have lost a lot of weight due to a change in diet, my BigBuck has now become too big for me and I have decided to sell it. My other shirts are now much roomier to wear, too, but they are still very comfortable to wear because they are not as heavy as deerskin and therefore do not "sag" as much in certain parts of the body.

@Oaktavia yo man, been giving this one the business of late? Been thinking of the black buck and curious how yours is coming along?

@flannel-slut I wore some small holes near the cuff of one of the sleeves and sent it in for a patch job. I think it was from wearing it over my 140IG and causing stress in that area. I was worried the hole would tear more if I kept wearing it. I have it back now but have been focusing primarily on my 22oz OD T3. Lately though, I have been wearing my BB and will update with photos when I get to 75 wears. I'm at 60 currently. It's definitely lightening up all over from black to tan.
P.s. I asked SB to do a visible patch job and they did a nice, subtle patch both inside and outside of the sleeve with new pieces of buckskin. I love how it turned out. I can post photos in a few.
Here is the patch:
And from the inside:
SB offered to replace the entire sleeve, but I didn't want to lose all of the fades and patina I had already worked into it. Plus, I just love nice, solid patch job. It's a souvenir from it's solo travels to Scotland.

@Oaktavia Awesome update man. Must have shat yourself when you initially uncovered that hole! the patch job looks SO good!! 3 cheers to SB and outstanding direction on your part… love a subtle touch of asymmetrical.

Patch job looks great, I think I would have went that same route vs replacing the sleeve too.

@flannel-slut the holes were super small but I just wanted to fix it fast. It is super thick and the reinforcement is the strongest part of the shirt now. I will probably put 20-25 more wears into it before summer. From there, I'll have it in heavy rotation this fall with whichever jacket I decide on. Heavy wear in late '25 into '26.

@Oaktavia love the direction you’re taking it. Always dope to see some updates from you on anything.

@Oaktavia As I have both the olive and black, it's good to hear SB was good to work with on the repair (and it looks great). Other than shipping it over, was the cost of repair reasonable? If I need it done, I'd rather send it over to the makers as well.
Yo dude! Iron Heart facilitated it all, so reach out to Graham with what needs repairing and he can liase with Simmons Bilt. The boys at IH are always top notch with their help with repairs. I highly recommend having Simmons Bilt take a look at it as they are the source of it all. Hit up the @ShopatIronHeart

@DeeDee85 thanks man!
@Mizmazzle I'm not sure exactly but it's definitely brown! Maybe my shoulder bag? Not sure if that's where it hits.
