@SKT Thank you. There is a lot Danish around here. Most village's names end with '-by' which means 'town' in Danish. There are Danish speaking schools, town signs are both in German and Danish, and the political party of the Danish speaking minority (the SSW) has special rights, like getting into our regional and also the national parliament without the 5%-barrier. But most of all, it's just a beautiful part of Germany. Little inhabited (for German standards), happy people, between two Seas with hundreds of lakes. My cottage is located between the Eckernförde Bay and the Schlei.

I’m fortunate that I have a lot of great local hiking trails around me and find peace in the mountains and forests. I have often dreamed of going on an extended hike for months at a time, but like you, it will probably have to wait until retirement as well. I found that I was getting into my stride and feeling strong and confident after 10 days trekking in Nepal and could have easily kept going. Something about the simplicity of hiking and being on the trail is so alluring…
