@singletrack If you're curious you can read back in this thread a ways..I documented the whole journey of getting the jacket and finding a furrier to do the alteration.

I got to see these at Self Edge the other day. They are beautiful! And the leather is so soft. What a jacket!

Hey everyone! I’m loving the look and feel of my new split steer, but the dye transfer is really bad. Does anyone have any experience with this? I’m wearing it with just a tee today and my hands and neck are covered in black dye transfer.

@seawolf I had the same problem, don't wear anything white and give your skin that touches it a good wash afterwards. I was left with a very black neck line ,apart from that it is an amazing jacket enjoy.

Mine shed some dye when I first got it onto a white tee...but didn't notice much more transfer after that...though I never wore another white shirt with it since.
Granted, mine was lightly used when I bought it, so hard to say exactly how much wear was required for it to stop. I've worn mine a bunch at this point and haven't noticed any transfer of dye for quite a while now....
Also, the tanning, chemical smell from the leather is 95% gone.

Hello. I’m unsure of sizing for this jacket. I’m pretty 50/50 with most of my IH shirts. UHF is usually XL and OD’d shirts are always XXL. I have an OD’d 17oz Type 3 that’s XXL but had a 14oz OD Type 3 that was XL. Iron heart N1 is XL.

I’d like to wear this with some layers to wear in the coldest of weather (NY) but not look like a sloppy mess in a T shirt. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

@juicydeeluxe Your best bet is to watch this video: https://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum/topic/5664/video-how-measure-to-jackets-the-iron-heart-method

Measure your jackets (especially your best fitting one) and compare those measurements to the product chart listed here: Brown Jacket or Black Jacket

Take notes and see which size will work better for you and if you have additional questions, email the IHUK Crew for assistance at: shop@ironheart.co.uk

                              Hope this helps.

I was able to try on an XL but not the XXL. What has me a little confused is the 17oz OD type 3 I have has narrower shoulders by .75” and chest by 2” but feels roomier than the XL IHJ-49 even though it measures larger. Its really only feels snug if my arms are in the “hugging” position. Maybe this is normal for leather jackets? I haven’t owned or worn a leather jacket before. It felt good otherwise just a little snug in the driving or hugging position. Only snug in the back of the shoulders area.

@juicydeeluxe that's funny I thought my leather type 3 was much much much roomier than my od 14 both in xl, especially in the chest and shoulders, which is weird because it has a lining so you'd think it'd be smaller.

If you have tried on the XL, then you must have a reference which will be far better than me trying to advise blind. No?

@Giles I’ve never worn a leather jacket before. I wasn’t sure if some snugness in the upper back/shoulder might be expected if extending out the arms to a 90 degree angle or there about or if this was an indication of an ill fitting jacket. I should’ve been more clear. It felt like a well fitting jacket otherwise.

The snugness may indicate that it is a tad small. Does it look good, feel good, if so it should be OK. Sizing up may make it feel a little better, but may just end up looking too large.? It's a very difficult question to answer with certainty.

So I went back and was able to try on both the 44 and 42. I ended up leaving with the 42. The 42 fits great and even allows me to add a couple of layers if needed. The 44 was too roomy. Idk why I thought it was too tight when I last tried it on.
