@goosehd How can this belong in random rants? 😉

Friends of mine run a restaurant and their signature dish is Nashville Hot Chicken.
Their dad is from Sri Lanka, so they're pretty tolerant to hot peppers.
They serve 5 stages, Mild, Hot, Really Hot, Lord Have Mercy and The Afterlife. I haven't done anything above Really Hot yet. They also serve good beer, but I have not yet been drunk enough to order anything hotter than that. I'm too scared...

@Mizmazzle so here’s the plan. These pets need to earn their keep so we start an Instagram account for them, think “Wabi sabi woofers” or “the fading fetchers” (unfortunately denim dog is already taken). The dogs wear some IH doing dog things, they get insanely popular, the money flows in and we divide it up to pay for their costs. Easy peasy and I see no roadblocks to this

@Mizmazzle Not cool. Who issues these tickets? I don’t think we have anyone around here that enforces this, although the DFO will check your boat for fish sometimes.

I usually keep our dogs on the leash when going on a walk - mainly to keep them from chasing deer. Sometimes I’ll let them off at the beach if no one is around and let them run and swim. My wife takes them on dog dates, which is just an excuse to hang out with your friends and walk the dogs 🤣

@SKT Solid plan if we could get IH to sponsor the dogs ~ they could open a new line of clothing that caters to the canine.

@Denman-John In veterinary medicine we often see a lot of BDLD attacks (Big Dog/Little Dog) and HBC (Hit By Car) for owners letting their dogs run free in parks and other highly used areas.

The starting emergency room visit (walking in the front door) now costs a minimum of $1000 CAD.

I think a lot of those rules are put into place to avoid such incidents.

Isn't this what training is for? I'm not being facetious, but surely you shouldn't have a dog if you cannot at least manage recall training.

Our intact Labrador Retriever is 2.5 years old and pretty well trained which we always walk on lead. This morning our neighbour was walking her 8 month intact and in heat female bull mastiff puppy on lead when we came across each other.

It took absolutely all of my strength to hold our dog back…even well trained dogs can’t fight some of their desires and instincts.

The horseback riding trails we ride on are shared trails with hikers and dog walkers. Is is exclusively dogs on 6' or shorter leash. A very high percentage of people don't follow that rule and let their dog off the leash to roam free.

And I get it. Wide open fields and forests of trails are so fun for dogs to explore and most have decent recall. But many times the dogs don't listen to their owners and rush at the horses barking. The owners pick up the embarrassed jog towards their dog and scold them as we walk by. The problem is horses are a flight vs fight animal and they can spook easy or possibly kick the dog in rare situations.

Leash laws are there for a reason, but a warning for you @Mizmazzle first would have been sufficient.

I totally understand why the leash laws are in place. And I agree that even the most well trained dogs can succumb to instinct and temptation. But it still sucks haha.
Carl is extremely well trained and highly obedient, but is just one of the hundreds of dogs that use the area, so rules must be in place.

When we hike and fish etc...he is never on leash (or anywhere else for that matter) because he is highly trained and has been exposed to a large range of scenarios and understands what to do and how to recall instantly without fail. He is a rare animal in that he has actually taught himself boundaries regarding the street and yard etc. When we got the ticket he was literally 3 ft from my side.

The city of Boulder, to the north of Denver has a really cool program. Yo ucan get a dog license to have you pup off leash on the local trails. They need to pass an obedience test to show they are trained and can meet the challenges of being off leash. I would LOVE my town to have something like this.

I understand the perspectives off each party...Horse owners, park goers, the city, other dog owners....But I also think it's possible to have a well trained dog that can navigate a park without bothering anyone. Carl won't even approach another dog, squirrel, goose etc unless I give him the ok to do so...But I understand that's not the case for every dog. I HATE dog parks...so many are small, fenced in areas with the same shit dogs/ owners who have no training. Also they are gross!

Basically I'm just pissed to pay this fucking ticket haha...

In the easy chair with my boots on, melted whiskey in my hand. Could'na been asleep for more than three hours...time to go to work again...
