Fantastic project and solid/good-looking progress…a most excellent job @endo .
Probably beyond my handiwork abilities, but CERTAINLY way beyond my capacity to persist at one goal.
      Congratulations sir!

      The journey is the objective.

@endo Are there any rules or regulations concerning these type of conversions? Can you just about do anything you want as long as you don't alter the structural members? It looks like most of the work you're doing is sheeting alterations and why I ask. Also, does the vehicle have to be reinspected prior to use?

Right @goosehd as long as you don't touch the frame of the car and use licensed built-in parts it should be no problem with the technical safety inspection. This is not immediately necessary, only within the usual 2-year interval, which will be Feb 2026 here.

The 3 windows I've built in now are from Dometic, a leading producer for outdoor parts here in Europe. But there are also other good companies. It has become a huge market.

The car is now still registered as truck, which costs lots more for tax and insurance than a RV. Once I've the water/sink and the gas/stove installed a can get it registered as an RV, but for that I've to get it reinspected.

My youngest (14 yo) and me drove down two days (1400 km) to Southern France. We are standing on the river banks of the Ardèche, a region where I‘ve been regularly since the 70s. The next 10 days will just be relaxing, hiking, swimming, SUPing (although there‘s no ‚standing-up‘ for me so far. And good food and wine, of course.

Today my son and I did a cayak tour down the Ardèche canyon. My parents did this with up to 50 teenagers for 16 consecutive years in the 80s and 90s. It was part of 3 week youth trip with bicycles through Southern France organized from the parish where my father was a pastor. They used to hike up the canyon in 3 days and cayaked it down in two.

We did the 24 km today at once. We started early so we had it cool and the canyon almost for ourselves. I have done this many times before, but again it was very impressive.

It put me in a bit of a melancholic mood, as it was the first time since both of my parents passed away within the last few years. But it also reminded me how grateful I am that they gave me this ‚traveling gene‘ that I‘m trying to pass on to my children now.

Anyway, it was a wonderful day.

                                    image.jpeg

(This pic I‘ve previously taken from a viewpoint above the canyon. At this point it‘s approximately 400m deep.)
