      A few weeks ago a bill was passed in the state which allows open carry for blades that were once banned…automatics, butterflies, etc.

      Picked up a few autos that I’ll test and use at work - Microtech (middle) & Boker (far right). The Chavez 229 (far left) was on sale for $199 so got one for me & one for my dad. Already used the 229 in the photo which handled some odds and ends beyond boxes and packages when my utility knife was mia at work - cutting/scoring material such as wood, drywall, straps, shims, rope, vinyl, etc. Handled everything like a champ.

      I don’t care for technicalities when it comes to what blades are used for what, if it’s sharp and it’s meant to cut I’m going all in.

          @RoxRocks86 excellent choices 🙂

          That Microtech OTF, I'm slightly jealous of! California will not let me have fun with that knife, or that other auto (probably)

          The Chaves is a great conversation piece! My niece thought the skull clip was Jack Skellington and kept asking me where his mouth was :p

              @iamjustdanny depending on where you are at, you might be able to find a dealer willing to work with you. I got my perhaps-not-so-allowed edc at Pier 39 in SF, which is def not a kosher city to buy in. And unless you get into it with someone(s) else, it might not ever be an issue. I’m hoping to get a full sized microtech soon, but my grail knife is still a sabenza.

                Yep. To my knowledge, it's not too hard to find someone willing to sell one to me. Basically, you can own it, just can't carry it.

                    Probably ticket and/or confiscate. I’ve often thought that one could proclaim ignorance of specific knife carry laws and get away with a lot. Depending on the cop. And the color of your skin, of course.

                      When I was a cop there was a law against blades over 3”. I never even considered asking anyone about the size of their knife. Unless of course it was being pointed at me but even then I’d just shoot them. If they lived then maybe it write them a ticket. 🤷‍♂️

                        @Matt That's sort of what I figured. I haven't been hassled or asked by the cops to show my pocket contents to them.

                        You're probably right in that I could get away with it.

                            The laws here in Canada are pretty strict, but for the most part they leave you alone (unless you're being an arsehole). The biggest catch 22 is the intent on carrying a knife. For the most part, you should be fine if you state it's a tool and you use it as such. If you state it's for protection, expect the worst.

                            However, switchblades, knives with knuckledusters in the handle, butterfly knifes, push daggers, hidden knifes (such as belt buckle knives, sword canes, etc) are prohibited and will end up putting you into a world of trouble.

                              Down the line, yes! They are some very fun knives to have.

                              At the moment, I do have enough knives to rotate through for EDC. Though, if a deal did come along that I couldn't pass up... 🧐

                                    To echo what has already been said, I happily carry in CA, and would say the knife was a gift (if I ever had to use said knife defensively). That being said, I also don’t seek conflict, so this isn’t truly a worry for me. It’s one of those, “we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it” sort of deals.
