I've had really good luck with the alcohol-based spray stuff that you can usually get at Whole Foods / health food stores etc. Or Amazon. It's just a pump spray though, not aerosol. Started with Weleda but eventually landed on EO — I like their lavender and citrus scents. Basically they smell nice for a minute and then go away, which I like, because I'm not a fan of when deodorant or hair product has a strong enough smell to clash with the scents I'm more deliberately wearing (I'm kind of a scent junkie).

Anyway, the EO stuff is great and there's not risk of it staining any clothing since it doesn't have any of the typical stuff in antiperspirant deodorant. I tend not to get too stinky unless I've been vigorously exercising or something, so it's worked really well for me — ymmv. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to try something new.

I’m thinking of letting my hair grow out a little bit, but my hair can get really dry and fluffy.

Anyone know of any hair styling products that are good for conditioning/shine, but have a low hold? My hair tends to be quite wavy so I don’t like anything too firm as loses the natural wave. Was looking at O’Douds Styling Cream or Conditioning Cream.

@jerkules This is what I use and have very similar hair and issues. Just a few drops will do and I put it in while my hair is still wet. (Olaplex No. 7)

Does this one have a scent?

@jerkules Yes, but it’s not very strong and you use so little that it doesn’t really matter.

So the missus is not a fan of me w the stache. Bit surprised with how much grey I’m packing in the upper lip these days but I have no choice but to keep for another week since voicing her disapproval. Thoughts? Yay or shave?

I was growing the shittiest stache when I met my wife (in my defence I was only 21). When we decided to go proper on the relationship, she requested I shave it off. Being a lovesick little boy I acquiesced. Ever since, if I let the upper lip grow only just a millimetre or two longer than the rest of my stubble, she requests that it goes.

@Matt The first rule of moustache is you must not give a fuck about what anyone else thinks of your moustache. (In other words, Mrs H semi-regularly asks me to shave mine too... though less frequently with the passage of time and after realising that I was not for turning on this point.) Katy will cease crying after she adjusts to the new-normal (or, at least, stop crying in front of you, which is just as good ).

@jerkules Possibly too late for you to try again now... I read in the paper not long ago that the moustache is regaining popularity (as it naturally would), and it listed and pictured the celebs recently seen wearing one. If you grow one now, you might be accused of following the trend? Alternatively (and you will know your wife's tastes) you might try subtly bringing up celebrity-so-and-so's (pick one she fancies) new moustache and gauge her reaction. You could always grow everything out then accidentally mess up trimming your beard when you start to look shaggy - with the consequence that you have no option but to shave the whole thing off (save the moustache) and let it grow again. That should give you at least a couple of weeks with the Mo to see how she reacts over time.

@T4920 Nah, I think it looks good. It's got that 90's boyband vibe, but in a good way.

At least your hair is light enough to go blonde. I tried bleaching while at college. I did 3 applications and my jet-black hair just went a brighter and brighter orange. I looked like Coco the Clown for a couple months before I shaved my head.

May I add that I have strong views on beards....The main thing being that if you keep one and create a line at the bottom, it must be at the neck line and never under any circumstances be at the jaw line. The jaw line beard looks especially heinous if you have a jaw any lesser than Henry Cavill. Then again, it's your hairstyle, do whatchalike!
Unfortunately thanks to genetics, I've found myself forced into the bald-and-bearded category. Luckily my wife loves the beard
