who took care of the cat @Giles?

Cats plural
When we made the decision to get the boat, we knew we would be away a lot. We also wanted to be flexible and leave at a moment's notice if the weather looked good. We also did not know when we would be home from long trips. Witness our bad weather-enforced delay in Brest.
When we renovated the house we made a self-contained flat downstairs, which @Alex lived in on and off for a few years. We have some young friends who would come and look after the cats and the house when we were away. They are saving up for a mortgage, so we came to an agreement with them; they live in the flat FOC, and in return, they look after the cats and the house when we are away, and keep on top of the mowing etc.
If works perfectly for us, they dote on the cats and are super happy living here.
A win win...

Oh yes, I am so sorry that I did not let you know, especially after the care-call late at night. We had to go away, and Luke and Courtney were instructed to feed him minced beef and raw chicken until he could eat no more. When we came back, he was a lot better, now he is 100% his old adorable and irritating self....
