First day skiing is one week from today. The drive is what I’m most worried about. That’s good advice @goosehd thanks

getting my sole day of the year in at Aspen in a few weeks. I learned to ski at Aspen Highlands, but have never tackled Mighty Ajax.

@SKT I know that pain all too well. Ever since I hurt my back during my rowing days 20 years ago, I get that on a regular basis. Heat and agitation helps me best. I always have a deep-heat plaster (correct term?) to put on, and go for longer slow walks. The problems you know have are your muscles locking up, so taking meds to relax them is also an option.

@SKT take Ibuprofen (as long as you don‘t have kidney problems and your stomach doesn‘t revolt against it), a total of 2400 mg per day seperated in 3-4 doses over the day, do it for at least 3-4 days without reducing (Ibu is not only an analgetic but also antiinflammatory and helps the irritared nerve root to calm down), than slowly reduce by need, stop after 10-14 days, also apply warmth to your lumbar region as often as possible (eg with a hot-water bag), once you can move without too much pain try these exercises, good luck with the drive, your IH neurologist ✌🏻

                                Neurologists aren‘t surgical, that’s neurosurgeons.

I was at university hospitals for almost 20 yrs. Did neurological intensive care, stroke unit and an epilepsy centre. Besides neuroscientific research, teaching and administration. A few years ago I wanted (and needed) a better work-life-balance and started my own practise, where I now do everything that‘s somewhat neurological (brain & nerves), but never surgical work.

Very cool and thank you! In veterinary medicine, there isn’t a distinction between the two and the neurologist does both and chooses to focus on either the medicine or the surgical side in practice depending on their interest.

@endo I truly appreciate your expertise here. I’ve got the ibuprofen flowing and a heat pad going into overdrive. Will put the stretches to use today as well. I think I was just surprised how sudden it happened and how severe it felt. Onward!

                                    Appreciate all you guys!
