Ha! @Anesthetist We honeymooned there and I recall having very similar conversations in jewelry stores with Katie. 15 years later and much better off we still have the same conversations.

Traded my Black Bay for a Ranger. Love it.

I never could dig the ‘rivets’ on the BB bracelet and the rose gold didn’t grow on me like I thought it would. Also coveting a 14060 Sub at some point down the line so I felt ok getting rid of my dive watch.

Really drawn to the 60s look of the Ranger. It’s weightier than the BB and most importantly has the T-Fit clasp!

That is a lovely watch--and I am with you on the rivets. Non-functional affectations bother me more than they should.

Dead sexy @Crease ; jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel go together like Oyster bracelet and smooth bezel IMO and that dial is perfect.

I have no idea how I didn't find this thread earlier... In addition to my IH addiction watches are a real problem....

I started off with a JLC Home time, which I loved, especially as I didn't want my first watch to be a Rolex, which I felt I'd be judged for... But quickly I realized it was a little to dressy for my jeans and t-shirt lifestyle.

So the next step was to pick up a Omega Seamaster 300 which was also great, but it still wasn't for some reason exactly what I wanted...

And in the end, two years after buying the first watch, I sold the previous two and bit the bullet and went for the Rolex. I've been enjoying the Explorer 1 for two years now and have never regretted it. The 36mm size fits my wrist perfectly and most people don't seem to notice I'm wearing a Rolex so I don't feel like I'm getting judged. It's my everyday wear.

GMT / dual time is an interesting complication because it exists in 2 completely different variations. There's the "caller" GMT, with a quick adjustment of the secondary time zone, and the "traveller" GMT with a quick adjustment of the main hour hand. The "traveller" style allows one to travel to their destination, quickly adjust the local time, with the secondary time zone keeping track of the home time. For some reason, it's a lot harder to implement. The vast majority of the cheap or mid range GMT watches are of the "caller" type. The vast majority of the "traveller" GMT are thick (Seiko & GS, Ball), expensive (at least 3 variations of Rolex), very clunky (e.g., secondary 12hr time scale with a day/night indicator, etc), or a combination of all this. I've been researching this for a while because I'd like a nice traveller's GMT. I actually have a little spreadsheet where I keep track of the various models because most are not made anymore (like that JLC), and my memory is crap.

Traveler is by far superior IMO. More of a “don’t make me think “ for the time zone you are actually in. I have a Seiko dive watch with that configuration and I much prefer it.
